...often akin to the broad scope of Robert Pollard of Guided By Voices. His warm, lilting voice is sometimes reminiscent of Ken Stringfellow and Jonathan Auer of The Posies and other times of Chris Isaak.

notes
"Tonight's performance is proof positive that San Francisco's live music scene is alive and well - and even more to the point, that there are still a few brilliant singer-songwriters lurking around, if you know where to look. Chris Porro is one of the city's undiscovered gems, with a richly melodic style in the tradition of the Beatles, David Bowie, Archer Prewitt, and Richard Davies. Singing dreamlike songs of love, loss, and corporate lackeydom, and backed up by P. Lenny (on trumpet), Harry Kniznik (on percussion), and Os Mutantes affiliate Alex Cotta (on bass), Porro puts on one of the most melodically and emotionally satisfying shows in town..." (Review from flavorpill SF, http://sf.flavorpill.net/mailer/issue24/index.html#porro for a tongue and groove show)
The music is modern melodic songwriting off the beaten path of mainstream pop and rock, beck-queue lyrics, references to leeches and lamprey. Chris gets compared to: Beck, Elliot Smith, Pete York, David Gray, Rufus Wainwright, Radiohead, Michael Penn, Ben Folds, David Bowie, Cat Stevens, the Beatles, John Lennon, Folk Implosion, Sebadoh, Lou Barlow, and Harry Nilsson.
Lampreys and Gigolos is Chris' first full length release. The CD is glass mastered with offset printing. Mixing and mastering were done at El Mundo Bueno Studios in San Francisco on a high-end Protools HD3 9200 I/O system. The CD looks and sounds great.

A crowd pleaser
author: Philippe LambertA thoroughly enjoyable listening experience. This will not be one of those CD's that you buy for one song and then wish you had just gone with the single. Each track has its merits. Lampreys and Gigilos will never be far from my CD player.
I love this CD. It hasn't come out of my CD player since I bought it!
author: carrielynn75This CD is unlike anything I usually listen to. It makes me feel peaceful and happy. The songs really get stuck in your head and you find yourself humming them when you're not listening to it!
Excellent.... (said like Mr. Burns from the Simpsons)
author: CapoI've been a Porro groupie for about 15 years, and I can absolutely say like a fine wine he gets better with age. This album is a bit mellower than his early stuff, but the lyrics and music make this one even better. "Go to Hollywood" is my fav. (no, I'm not his mother)
Fabulous!
author: Sheila CantonwineGreat sound - great lyrics! One of the best CDs I've listened to in awhile.
