Portal's first EP, 'A Taste of Things to Come...' offers just that - a taste of the intensity and complexity that this talented new band will have to offer in the years to come.
The album was recorded, produced, and engineered at Pitchwhyte Studios in Edmonton by lead singer/songwriter Kenton Thomas.
It offeres a wide range of sounds, from industrial to electronic-metal hybrid, to straight up hard rock.
More concerned with writing intelligent, well crafted compilations, Portal takes its influences from a wide range of talented artists such as Nine Inch Nails, Tool, Finger Eleven, Filter, Deftones, Soundgarden, Dream Theatre, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and many others.

good music , reminds me of Filter
Can I give this six stars?
author: Chris O'HareLooks like you'll have to get these tunes elsewhere, but it's worth the effort. Try iTunes. (Or beg Portal to re-master these songs.) I fell in love with the band when I first heard this cd years ago. The lyrics are thoughtful, passionate, defiant; the music is complex, emotional, skilled. Like Tool crossed with Nine Inch Nails, with compassion. Do check out their latest cd, Element (available on CDBaby), which is even better than this.
Love it!
author: Ty "DrkEagle"I first heard Portal on what was www.mp3.com from a Canadian that I talked to on MSN. I downloaded the songs from there and was instantly hooked! I told myself 'When I get a job, that will be the first CD I buy'. And guess what? It was. Portal is awesome, shame they're not widely successful, I'd love to hear more and see them in concert, but I live in California :( All in all, Portal is amazing and "The Fallen" is one of my favourite songs.
Amazing lyrics, backed by incredible licks
author: NebulusPortal is a "thinking man's band". It's refreshing to see a band that can actually write lyrics that are cohesive, deep, and easily understood. Their musical talent doesn't stop there, but overwhelms you with beautiful, yet driving riffs that add the exra punch to the lyrics - perfection!
Wow - Amazing Album!
author: Mark GrovesThis is incredible, Why they only seem to exist in Canada I dont know, they have a massive capability overseas. Everyone over here is continually asking, What's that, who is it, It's great! It really is a brilliant album, i look forward to the follow up, amazing........
Amazing
author: Dennis CangemiAs stated in the other reviews, this CD is nothing less than perfection. I cannot wait to hear what else Portal has in store. Finger Eleven used to be my favorite band, but now here comes Portal to take the crown.
The Next "Dream Theater"
author: Greg OwensIncredible! I can't believe this is a debut album! It takes most bands their entire career to create music of this depth. My CD collection has just been given a new reason to exist.
Absolute perfection
author: PjhoseThis album is perfect. Portal is in a class of its own. I recomend this album to anyone who even knows that metal is a genre
Perfection has been Achieved
author: Troy KrammThe cd is nothing less than amazing, each track rocks with perfectly placed guitar riffs and amazing vocals, Portal have a style of their own, Their vocals are a harmonious blend of finger eleven, Tool, and well Portal themselves. This cd will give you everything you want and more. Do yourself a favour and buy it, or you will regret it.
