notes
"We're just wallpaper tonight", is what an old drummer in my band used to say all time. If you listen to the title track here (to your left) it will make more sense.. I am also a great fan of George Harrison. In 1968 he released a soundtrack album called "Wonderwall Music". It had many different styles of music (Although primarily East Indian). A virtual plethora of sounds. That's where alot of the inspiration for this album came from and the fact that I had so many songs that sounded so different from each other. In the 2 years before I actually started recording "Wallpaper Music" I had written about 25 songs. I started recording the album in August 2001 and finished in February 2002. I usually have a good idea of what an album will sound like before I start recording it. On this one I wanted a lot of "color" and to layer and orchestrate the songs with guitars and vocals. I also wanted the album to have alot of musical landscapes. If you listen closely I focused on many different guitar styles and sounds. For example on "Too Close For Comfort" there is a swirl of chorus-ed electric guitars. Or... at end of "Wallpaper Music" the feedback goes on for quite a while, something I'm sure my neighbors still remember. I play all the instruments and do all the singing except for the sax on the title track and "The Way I Think You See Me" which was played by the great Steve Prazak. So... after 6 months it was finished and released on Feb. 25th, 2002. A set of headphones might help you hear some hidden jewels in the mix.
Some inside information...
The lyrics on "Heart Of A Rose" were written by my Great Grandmother Alice Prescott in 1935. I wrote the music in 2001.
"Taking on Water" was written Dec. 8th, 2001 for George Harrison.
The Chant at the beginning of "Believer" is a Tibetan refugee courtesy of dharmahaven.com, also The guitar out-solo is me paying homage to Eric Clapton when he played on "Wonderwall Music" by George Harrison. there's a certain tone he got on a song called "ski-ing" that's very unique. I think I got close to it.
The Guitar solo at the end of "Rainbows End" was done in one take.
The cover of the album was painted by the German artist Hans Taeger in 1972
I also have an all acoustic album here at CD Baby. Go to www.cdbaby.com/prescott2 to check it out.

The Songs are the center
author: Peter BlueDean has produced a nice album of songs. The songs are the heart, and, yes, Dean is a good singer. The voice is accompanied by interesting textures of guitars and sometimes ethnic percussion. All in all there is a hint of 60ies psychedelia. He must have listened to the Beatles, McCartney, Harrison and Tom Petty at least once ;-)) The good thing about the cd is that it creates a unique sound that is rather timeless than trendy. Soul Searching in Prescott's music leads one to that special place in the heart:
author: Allan J. ByerPrescott takes the listener on a journey of the mind and soul with this eclectic mix of rootsy instrumentation, leading us Home to that most special place, the Human Heart. Taking on Water is my favorite, a fine tribute to the passing of a Giant, George Harrison. Wallpaper Music speaks to the artists out there who play to the ignoring masses most of the time but maintain their artistic integrity and mission. Too Close for Comfort, Fear of Falling and the The Way I think You See Me form a finely orchestrated medley of soul-searching around what it is to be human. Wake Me Up When It's Over is a fitting anthem on 911, and Prescott wrote the tune before the event, an example of how "The Muse" sometimes works in the artist. Overall an amazing collection of "High Protein" listening, a lot to bite down on. Try the taste of Wallpaper Music. I think you'll like it.
From Belgium Webzine
author: Original Sin WebzineDEAN PRESCOTT Wallpaper Music (CD)(MirrorTime Records) It’s said with respect but if someone writes his first song in 1975 then I think you can use THE TERM “veteran” and that’s only a good thing as “Wallpaper Music” is a cd in where the quality is outstanding. This musician from Oregon (that’s in the US) has played lots of shows solo and also with his band, The Substitutes. It’s kind of difficult to describe Dean’s music in a proper way but using the term intelligent pop music isn’t just a term for the sake of giving one as it has the freshness of early Elvis Costello-recordings but added with the intelligence of early REM and if you combine that with a psychedelic touch in Syd Barrett-style, the result can only be good, no? A new album should be out in 2003."
Music that's in touch with the Source
author: Kelly KI first got to hear Wallpaper Music more or less by luck; as it turned out, it was my favorite new album in a long time. Sparkling, radiant electric guitar work (plenty of it) and rich vocals are part of what make it special. The songs are very eclectic but many share an expansive, open feeling that's hard to find in today's pop music. To borrow an often-misused phrase ... "real music." Do yourself a favor and buy it.
Wonderful, colorful visions of sound
