notes
Rahim AlHaj began playing the oud at age nine. It was evident early on that he had a gift. He is a graduate of the prestigious Baghdad Conservatory, where he studied under the great Munir Bashir and Salim Abdul Kareem.
Rahim is among the most accomplished oud players of his generation. His original compositions delicately introduce modern concepts into the tradition of Iraqi oud playing. This CD is a compilation of Rahim's compositions reflecting his feelings for his country, Iraq, his city, Baghdad, its people, and its rich Sumerian past.

The Second Baghdad
author: Kathleen Fekete BauerleinPerhaps if I was able to listen to more than one track I wouldn't have purchased, but upon listening more than once, I find his music engagaging and am glad I got the cd.
Hypnotic
author: Adam BoltzHis oud is obviously hardwired to his heart and soul. Rahim Alhaj pours it out from the astral with this music that just seems to carry me away. I'm happy and fortunate to have this cd in my collection.
Exquisite!
author: LisaThis is a gorgeous CD, from beginning to end. I had never heard the oud played before; this CD is a beautiful introduction.

I heard it on Pacifica Radio, Democracy Today, and was so captivated I called New York immediately and got the name. It took me a while to track it down but I'm so glad I did. I've always loved the oud since I first heard it back in the '60's. This one is melodious, peaceful, haunting--beautiful.

I've heard Rahim play on an Albuquerque station (KUNM) many times, but local searches went unrewarded until I heard him mention CD Baby. In short, his work impressed me sufficiently to track it down and send to friends as well. It's soul to soul music, profound and ethereal simultaneously.
I love this CD. I've played it for several friends who have also enjoyed it.
author: Emma the chocolate lab's MomThis CD is lovely, soft, haunting, comforting. The music is unobtrusive, but has a way of working itself into the listeners consciousness...and all of a sudden you realize it is touching you. Thanks!
Very Fine
