  • "A Great Slice Of Rock Music"
    author: Duncan.....March 2007

A great slice of rock music with mainly up-tempo foot tappers which you naturally nod your head to. All the songs seem to be about girls and good times so I think we should all be thinking about booking our holidays to Toronto this year. The music is well written and crafted by Walter Lasky and Ted Bonis. Unusually, for the CD's we get, all the lyrics were in the CD case, I wish more bands would do this. They have a very tight band and the top tracks for me are "Fire Ball", the lewd "Have Some Fun", "Lucky Lady". Another good one is "Break The Fall", a story of how a good woman can get you on the straight and narrow. The CD finishes with the slower and atmospheric "Wild Horses". I enjoyed this one a lot and always think it's a shame that many of these bands will never get the rewards they deserve.

  • "A Fun Album That Deserves A Listen"
    author: Isaac Joseph Davis...Staff Writer...Published Aug. 06 2007

So, what kind of sound does Random Allies Have? What they don't have is a conventional sound. It is a mix between classic rock, alternative and spices of pop. In fact, with the release of their new CD, Thunder Run, the band really shows us their musical talents with a mixture of hard rocking tunes and a couple of ballads to display their softer side. All in all, Thunder Run is a fun album and one that deserves a listen. The CD contains 12 tracks and I think that each one holds its own weight. I really enjoyed listening to the CD and I think you will too. I give this CD a solid B.

  • The Band Is A Smooth Rock Option
author: Dave Chislett "Music Journalist"...Johannesburg,South Africa

Random Allies Is a rock band based in Toronto,Canada. The musical unit centres around songwriters Walter Lasky, vocals, guitar and Ted Bonis, on lead electric guitars. Influenced by the best of "American West Coast Rock" like AeroSmith and Bon Jovi, they have recently released their latest album "Thunder Run". True to their intentions, the band is a smooth rock option that has all of those bases covered. "Have Some Fun" is a great barometer for the style of the band and gives vent to an interesting, piano led rock anthem. They may wear their influences on their sleeve, but their is something else brewing here too.

  • It Moves Along,Stays Interesting and Keeps the Listener Engaged
    author: SongTiger...By ST Staff

Random Allies is the brainchild of Walter Lasky and Ted Bonis. They are based in Toronto,Canada, and have appeared everywhere from clubs, to festivals, to television. Their new disc, "Thunder Run", combines some rockers and some ballads to show off what they are capable of. The first track, Fireball, opens up with a "Bang". The sonic landscape is diverse and pleasant. The drums are crisp, the bass is full and the guitars have a good tone. This is a pretty standard "Rock and Roll" track, but that is good. It moves along, stays interesting and keeps the listener engaged. Roseanne provides a "Call-and-Response" chorus that makes you want to pump your fist and sing along. There is a cool guitar hook as well. Walter's voice sometimes borders on John Fogerty. This is a good time kind of song. Cats Eyes breaks from the start with a tribal beat, and this bluesy guitar line with a feel reminiscent of the Charlie Daniels Band, Still In Saigon. The song pounds forward with a solid "Classic Rock Feel". "Thunder Run" is a good disc. It is a solid "Rock and Roll" album. You can hear hints of ZZ Top,AeroSmith, Bruce Springsteen and Live (Throwing Copper) throughout the disc. The songs are catchy, succinct and complete. There is a cohesiveness to this album, but the songs are varied enough to keep you listening. There are a couple of moments here and there where I think an outside producer would have helped to give a fresh perspective on a handfull of melodies or lyric phrasings that detract from what could be in the song. It is a good CD,however, so I expect that you all will check these Canadians out, eh, you knobs.

Solid songwriting, vocals, production and musicianship. "Have Some Fun" is a hook-filled track with catchy honkey-tonk piano contrasting guitar countermelodies and a high energy chorus

  • "The Album is Well Written and Catchy"
    author: Staff Writer...Michael Grillo

Thunder Run is the latest album from Canadian duo Random Allies. Musically, the album showcases a very straightforward, bluesy hard rock sound that maintains a nice balance between rhythmic power riffs and solos. On many of the tracks Walter Lasky's vocals are strikingly similar to fellow Canadaian Neil Young, especially on some of the album's harder songs such as "Lucky Lady", "Cats Eyes" and "Bad Attitude" which are very reminiscent of Crazy Horse. Unfortunately, the band's lyrics are not as interesting as Young's and most of the lyrical content is rather pedantic and at times corny, with lines, " and "When I Look into her eyes I see a fire ball". Overall, while some of the tracks are a bit banal lyrically, it does appear to be all in good fun. This album really begins with the 4th track "Roseanne" and is consistently solid from there on out. Some of the more exceptional tracks include "Sailing," "Break The Fall" and "Wild Horses." Additionally, the music itself is very well played and produced. In sum, if you are looking for a good straightforward rock album with its fair share of catchy tunes and good musicianship, then I would recommend Random Allies..."Thunder Run."
