notes

Back By Popular Demand is the second release by this Bay Area outfit. During the recording of this album MC's Lexxx Luthor, CB, and Mic Blake, all alumni of the prolific jazz/hip-hop group Alphabet Soup, joined the mix. With this album you see the variety of flavors that this group can deliver. From the three instrumental funk tracks, to the funk/hip-hop track "Suppose To Be", featuring the dynamic vocals of Zoe Ellis, to the raga-style-funk track "Turn Out The Lights", with Lucky. The band drops a mix of styles true to the cultural melting-pot that is the Bay Area.

Since 1998, Raw Deluxe has performed their high-energy show for audiences both nationally and internationally. The group's exciting live act stems from their well-crafted songs and strong improvisational skills

In 2000, RD was voted Best Jazz Band by the SF Bay Guardian's "Best of the Bay". The group was also noted as "one of the best original acts currently in the Bay Area" on citysearch.com, where they were nominated for 2001 Best Music Act, along side artists such as Green Day, Boz Scaggs, and Vinyl. The group was also nominated for the 2002 SF Weekly Music Awards, "Best Soul / Blues / Funk" category

The band is comprised of Chris_Spano - drums, Chris_Arenas - bass, Matt_Fleming - electric piano/organ, Tony_Jurado - saxophone, and MC's Lexxx Luthor, Mic Blake and CB of the Alphabet Soup Crew. The group got their start playing the Bay Area's acid-jazz and hip-hop circuit throughout the late nineties, performing at Toph One's The Funkside and Mr. Brown's Elephunk and Double Trouble parties. Since then they have come from the underground to playing larger events with acts such as Digital Underground, Olu Dara, and The Breakestra.

In July 2001, the group released the critically acclaimed EP "Back to the Jungle" on the Reel Deal Music label. XLR8R magazine noted the CD as "Killer jazz-funk from this San Francisco outfit, complete with horns, wailing keys and tight rhythm. They've been quietly winning loyal fans for the past few years, and with these six original tracks it's easy to see why. Check 'em out." You can also find the breakout single "Get Some" featured on the Subkoncious Records compilation, Elephunk / Live-N-Direct

Today, Raw Deluxe continues to bring their delectable grooves to audiences at clubs, concerts and festivals. The group has also just released their second disc "Back By Popular Demand" which features the group's newer sound with the addition of Lexxx, Mic Blake and CB on vocals. And In addition to that the album has a couple guest on vocals Zoe Ellis, Ryan Green, Lucky, and Skoda.
