The Post-minimalist music of Marc Mellits is very groove-oriented. Its like rock'n roll and new age for acoustic instrumental bands.

notes
Real Quiet is a three-man band dedicated to creating an exclusive repertoire of hard-edged acoustic and electro-acoustic music by today’s leading composers. The three members – percussionist David Cossin, cellist Felix Fan and pianist Andrew Russo – are each highly accomplished soloists and dedicated champions of contemporary music. Real Quiet formed in 2004 aiming further the redefinition of group musicmaking in the 21st century. The group debuted at New York’s Merkin Hall in the world premiere of Annie Gosfield’s Wild Pitch – a piece inspired by the 2004 World Series. Subsequent appearances at San Diego’s Muzik3 festival introduced world premieres of Phil Kline’s Fear and Loathing - dedicated to gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson - and Marc Mellits’ Tight Sweater.
Most recently, Real Quiet premiered ‘WORK’, a video-music installation by David Lang and Suzanne Bocanegra – ‘”Work” felt like a significant occasion, soaring in the often tricky realm of music-visual collaborations. It's a piece somehow both vaporously subtle and emotionally powerful - the best kind of artistic effect (L.A. Times)’. ‘WORK’ will receive further performances at the 2006 Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival and New Haven’s Festival of Arts and Ideas.
A joint commissioning project by the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival and Summerfest in La Jolla will result in three major pieces written for and premiered by Real Quiet over the next three years. The first work will be a composition of Marc Neikrug (2007), with subsequent works written by Kaija Saariaho (2008) and George Tsontakis (2009). New works are also being created for Real Quiet by composers from China -Ge Gan-Ru, Taiwan – Gordon Chin, and Israel - Yoav Gal.
