the Narcissist is Rory's debut album, recorded and mixed between Juneau, AK and Whitehorse, Yukon Territory. It's cold music with a warm heart, Tori Amos meets Oingo Boingo, or perhaps 80's synth pop in a Victorian music salon. Abrupt melodies and insistent piano riffs frame the supple and focused vocals. This album is from outer space.
Born and raised in Alaska, Rory is part of the reemerging trend of music school dropouts turned singer/songwriters. From classical roots springs pop music with long melodies ala Rufus Wainwright, poetic license ala Tori Amos and androgynous soul ala David Bowie and Annie Lennox. Rory has performed around the country and Canada frequently for the last 6 years refining his performance and style. He's worked extensively with world renowned Perseverance Theater as actor, musical director and sound designer. A live solo piano album is in the works to bring his renowned performances to a larger audience.

author: AliThe set up of the CD is very well done, the tracks seem to flow into one another, and they just fit properly. The sounds are quite eclectic, from pop to a bit of techno to even a touch of rock, it blends most every style into a single song. A blasphemy, certainly, but an astoundingly well done one. The lyrics absolutely blew me away, the imagery and power behind them are both quite strong. Rory Merritt Stitt's voice lends life to the lyrics he wrote, and gives them so much more power. You can't help but sit up and pay attention when someone plays this CD. The catchy tunes only help to cement them in your brain long after you heard them.

author: GothicGuruI am trying to make a compilation CD for friends to introduce them to some music I've found here and elsewhere... in trying to pick the "best" track off this CD I about had a seizure. Every track is my favorite until the next track begins and then that one is my favorite.... This CD is part carnival, part theatre, part sideshow, a little freak show, some cabaret, a slice of piano bar, and who knows what else.

author: BrettI think it impossible for Rory Merritt Stitt to do something and not succeed. his album, although very different and expiremental is also very poignant and relative. i purchased this cd after i had already grown accustomed with the artist - i think that it is very wonderful and abrassive at the same time. which is something that i love in an artist. love live theatre pop.
