notes
"Android piano-man..."
the Narcissist is Rory's debut album, recorded and mixed between Juneau, AK and Whitehorse, Yukon Territory. It's cold music with a warm heart, Tori Amos meets Oingo Boingo, or perhaps 80's synth pop in a Victorian music salon. Abrupt melodies and insistent piano riffs frame the supple and focused vocals. This album is from outer space.
Born and raised in Alaska, Rory is part of the reemerging trend of music school dropouts turned singer/songwriters. From classical roots springs pop music with long melodies ala Rufus Wainwright, poetic license ala Tori Amos and androgynous soul ala David Bowie and Annie Lennox. Enough hooks to catch your interest and enough levels to listen again and again, this is music to fall down the rabbit hole to...
Rory has performed around the country and Canada frequently for the last 6 years refining his performance and style. He's worked extensively with world renowned Perseverance Theater as actor, musical director and sound designer. A live solo piano album is in the works to bring his renowned performances to a larger audience.

Amazing!!
author: Christopher KoehlerStitts "The Narcissist" is the very first CD I bought over CD Baby and I immediatly fell in love with it. A very ecclectic, theatrical and beautifully done CD !
The Narcissist is a very well done CD
author: AliThe set up of the CD is very well done, the tracks seem to flow into one another, and they just fit properly. The sounds are quite eclectic, from pop to a bit of techno to even a touch of rock, it blends most every style into a single song. A blasphemy, certainly, but an astoundingly well done one. The lyrics absolutely blew me away, the imagery and power behind them are both quite strong. Rory Merritt Stitt's voice lends life to the lyrics he wrote, and gives them so much more power. You can't help but sit up and pay attention when someone plays this CD. The catchy tunes only help to cement them in your brain long after you heard them.
Bliss
author: GothicGuruI am trying to make a compilation CD for friends to introduce them to some music I've found here and elsewhere... in trying to pick the "best" track off this CD I about had a seizure. Every track is my favorite until the next track begins and then that one is my favorite.... This CD is part carnival, part theatre, part sideshow, a little freak show, some cabaret, a slice of piano bar, and who knows what else.
genius
author: BrettI think it impossible for Rory Merritt Stitt to do something and not succeed. his album, although very different and expiremental is also very poignant and relative. i purchased this cd after i had already grown accustomed with the artist - i think that it is very wonderful and abrassive at the same time. which is something that i love in an artist. love live theatre pop.

"Straight from the gate, he presents himself as a performer and composer of skill beyond his years. This fine debut effort indicates Rory Merritt Stitt is set to gain a cult following."
- author: Robert Torres, Real Time Records
"Off colored, driving, artistic intensity...a series of pop-tronic jazzy pieces that come across at times more like compositions...a very thought out approach to song writing...a very gifted talent. The songs have a layered feel, intriguing enough on the surface to beckon yet more exploration. The more I listened, the more I appreciated the nuances of the music."
- author: Maurice Spencer, The Synthesis Network
"I got the impression of love songs for robots living in a post-apocalyptic, anti-utopian future society. This heavily piano-driven album lays down stark, stride grooves straight out of the 30s with tin-pan alley blues riffs, psychotic synth bass ala NIN, and sparse electronic drums that crank out evil disjointed rhythms. The contrast of discordant piano riffs with flawlessly beautiful progressions makes this album really work as a whole. I hear a lot of Bowie and Eurythmics creeping in the shadows of this extraordinary album."
