Open Heart is an irreverent, comic look at love and life seen through the eyes of a man during a one-minute trauma that changes him...forever. Open Heart made its world premiere in March of 2004 at the historic Cherry Lane Theatre in New York City. Rodgers and Hammerstein Org. is licensing and publishing the musical for future productions. This particular album is unique in that it is the singer/songwriter versions of selected songs from the show. There are also three bonus tracks from Open Heart The Musical, featuring the remarkable talents of Karla DeVito and Stan Brown.
Karla DeVito and Stan Brown starred in the original cast in New York City and received rave reviews for their dazzling performances. The musical was written as an eternal valentine to Karla DeVito, a Broadway star and the 'woman behind the loaf' (Karla DeVito sang and toured with Meat Loaf on the original Bat Out of Hell Tour). Karla DeVito and Stan Brown are the most talented actor/performers "...to ever grace the stage." Soon, there will be an original Open Heart Album but until then, these songs will represent the six year journey of the musical.

    I am a hopelessly sentimental romantic. Listening to this CD reminds me of all the things I love about my spouse. How much I love him and our family. I listened to it non stop for eight hours.

    I was very happy to finally get Robby Benson on CD. I have been afan of his since I saw him in Jeremy. I have just started to find my way around the internet and tryed looking for the movie Ice Castles. WoW was I happy to not only find it but so many other things Robby Benson. As soon as I found out about the CD I had to have it. I looked around and found the best price from CDBaby. I recived it fast and was very entertained by there e-mails. I can't wait to hear moor from Robby Benson!

    This CD was a blessing to hear. I thoroughly enjoyed it. My favorite thing about it was the passion. You could hear the message in the songs and it really touched me. The voices blend well together and the songs were rich and full of meaning. This is a CD that I'll never get tired of!

I've been a fan forever, and wanted to own an official recording of his since I recorded him singing singing Mr. Weinsteins Barber Shop on the Mike Douglas show a million years ago.     For 25 years, I’ve laughed at “Pinsky’s” antics, marveled at Robby Benson’s wickedly velvet voice, and cursed because there were no recordings. Alas, after “Laughing” again last week, I submitted “Robby Benson” to cyberspace search and hit gold. Once the buffers loaded and Robby’s hauntingly beautiful voice caressed my ear, I could not order “Open Heart” fast enough. Of course the clever folks at “CD Baby” made the ordering process more fun than I ever expected, and the moment their “private CD Baby jet” landed, I began listening and haven’t stopped! Thank you, CD Baby, for selling the CD; Thank you, Karla, for being such an inspiration; and Thank you, Robby, for sharing your heart so openly.

This cd takes you on a magical journey like you have never had before in your life! My next question...when will it be available on dvd? I want to see the musical now of this!     This CD is a must have for any Robby Benson fan. The recordings are crisp and the cover artwork is pretty. There are no words to the songs printed in the case or info about the play... not a big deal as it is the music I want to hear, not read a book! :)

    Open Heart Review I sure do appreciate being contacted about the availability of the CD. I'd contacted the manager of the Cherry Lane Theatre asking if they were going to do a CD or DVD and he said he would pass my letter on to Robby but I'd never heard from him. I was just sooo disappointed I couldn't make it up to NY to see the play. As from another reviewer, it gets my curiosity up as to how the songs play into the storyline. Alot of today's music is so unintelligible, offensive and irritating - and if not, there hasn't been a group or singer that has caught my fancy for 20 years! When I got Robby's CD it was the first time since i was in my late teens (I'm 53) that i plopped myself down on the couch, turned up the surround sound and just closed my eyes and just sang my heart out along with Robby and Karla - over and over and over. Robby, your CD BOOMED throughout the neighborhood!! It was so great to once again emotionally and creatively be able to experience my love for music by identifying with the lyrics! Thanks for bringing back the romantic dreaming child in me - MORE, MORE!!

    I was so excited to find out they were releasing this cd. I saw the show, and got to meet Robby after the show! What a treat. The album is exciting, and brings back those magical memories and moments of the two times I went and seen the show. I cannot wait until the whole soundtrack is released, and you can bet I will be first in line to get it. Robby's voice is so great, and his songs are awesome. It is a shame that there is not more music out there by him. He is tops in acting, movies, theatre, and music. Robby has always had a special place in my heart, but when I met his wife, Karla, that night, she stole my heart! She is on a couple of the songs, and what a treat. The two of them on one stage, and on this album, your ears on in for the experience of a life time. They are great, and the album, totally recommended. No Robby or Karla fan should be without it. I have played my copy over 50 times. Just fantastic music!!!!!!!!!!!

    I have Been a fan of Robby's since I was I a child, And can still hear the first time I feel in love with his voice ,lyrics. When he did the song from "All the kind strangers"...I have waited over half my life for this CD...and hope he never! stops...this is such a Heart felt Cd...and his talents are endless...and I highly recomend it....my sister in law,had never heard him...and she had to buy one,after hearing mine,I have heard nothing but peace ,joy and true love through the words,and he is the only one one who could get those feelings on a CD...PLEASE make more...more then a devoted fan!

    Great CD. Have always loved and appreciated Robby's musical abilities. Of course would have liked to have had a longer lasting CD. Way too short. Reasonable price and would buy again, but then would buy because it is Robby!

    I was thrilled to be able to buy the CD. I love Robby's songwriting and his singing. Would love to hear more by Robby. I wish I'd seen the show so that I could see how the songs played into the storyline. I've loved Robby's voice since I heard him sing "Mr. Weinstein's Barbershop" on "The Tonight Show."     I was so excited when i received Open Heart so quickly. My favorite song is 'Forever', probably because I am a bit of a romantic. Robby has a unique voice I can't quite explain. There's a deep undertone with a soft genuine quality to it. His voice is truly beautiful and real. His wife, Karla has a great singing and speaking voice for the stage, it is pleasant and lively. I also enjoyed the songs 'Purly Whites' and 'If I had the wings' among others. I realize Robby has much to say and much to offer the world through his music and by the person he is at heart.

    The CD its' self was a burnt copy, not high quality. The inserts front and back were made of standard paper and very disappointing. The CD was not long at all, maybe 36 minutes. No lyrics included in the cheap jewel case or your traditional thank yous. Given this, the CD is overpriced at $12.97. Perhaps, a $6.00 price would be better suited. However, because it was material by Robby Benson, I would have paid $100.00 for the CD on Ebay. I LOVE Robby Benson and I have been his Fan & Friend since 1968. His voice belongs on the airways! The CD is worth buying, especially for my favorite Robby tune, "Forever".
