Louise Rogers and Rick Strong are a voice and bass duo who live in New York City. They can be seen regularly at various clubs in and around the city.

"The idea of a small ensemble had always interested us. We were drawn to and fell in love with the bass and voice concept: the intimacy, the space, and the woody, organic, acoustic sound. The songs on this CD were carefully chosen. We looked for pieces that were interesting, funny, or simply beautiful and that lent themselves to this instrumentation. We hope you enjoy listening to this CD as much as we enjoyed recording it."

".. the most joyously encouraging way of expanding the audience for jazz I've heard is the work of jazz singer - educator Louise Rogers"
Nat Hentoff

"Establishes a new relationship between bass and voice...reminiscent of Tuck and Patti...you will long to hear this CD"
Kim Nazarian - New York Voices

"Masterful performance...refreshing to hear...this music is exposed and draws you into it."
Jerry Bergonzi - Internationally recognized jazz saxophonist and teacher

"Achieves a beautiful mood with the voice and bass."
Luciana Souza - Grammy nominated Jazz vocalist

"A wonderful innocence and a pure, unaffected quality."
Les Hooper - Arranger and composer

"Louise Rogers...great chops and a warm, witty approach to song..." Andrew Rowan - All About Jazz, New York

"Louise possesses a voice of subtlety and strength. Rick has a beautiful rich tone on both upright and electric basses. My favorite moments come when Louise and Rick are doubling each other on swinging chromatic phrases, making them sound like one instrument instead of two, completely locked in to what the other is doing."
Peter Eldridge - member of the Grammy award winning vocal group New York Voices.

"Louise has a voice that will reach right out and touch your heart - and won't let go ... smooth, yet full of verve and life! ... highly recommended!"
Improvijazzation Nation issue #71

"the musical symbiosis between Louise & Rick are such that their musical collaborative idea works beautifully."
George W. Carroll/The Musicians' Ombudsman

  • MULTIPLE VOICES AND A REAL BASS GUITARIST
    author: Sérgio Mattoso - Brazil

I must confess that I bought the CD primarily because of the bass player. After hearing it I fell in love for the singer too . Louise Rogers caught my attention in each and every song by showing amazing interpretations for so many different songs. Her soft voice sounds sweet “Angel in the House”, “Peace on Earth” and “Shenandoah”, jazzy “Autums Leaves” and “I Thought About You”, lyrical “Willow Weep For Me” and “Nana” and funny “Twisted” and “Dat Here”. Louise is a great improviser and she follows the bass lines with a high degree of fluency too. On the other hand, Rick Strong bass playing is certainly great on both acoustic and specially on the eletric 6 strings, where he particularly sounds like guitar player creating inspired harmonies. This unusual format will be surely appreciated by bassists and singers for this magical combination of talents.

  • BEAUTIFUL Music!
    author: Joey Pernice!

Louise sings with a beautiful voice and never gives up when learning something! She has been singing for children and adults for over 15 years and really has alot of talent!

  • ... their individual strengths combine to create a unique chemistry.
author: Ed Friedland: Bass Player Magazine August 2005

The bass and voice duo is one of the most daunting configurations, leaving both performers totally exposed. Perhaps the fact that Rogers and Strong are married helps here, but their individual strengths combine to create a unique chemistry. Strong plays acoustic upright and Fodera 6 string in solid support of the vocals, but stands alone as a soloist with great time, tone and ideas. His chordal work on the 6 utilizes the instrument's full range and is perfect accompaniment for Rogers' pristine vocals. Strong's upright sounds natural and woody and he swings hard. The pair have arranged the music to keep it interesting throughout the 10 tracks with tricky unison lines, overdubbed vocal textures, and solos.

  • This is pure sweet jazzy entertainment! Both musicians are radiant!
    author: O's Place Jazz Newsletter

This is pure sweet jazzy entertainment! The music is a series of duets with bassist/guitarist Rick Strong and the vocals from Louise Rogers. "Dat Dere", "Twisted" and "I Thought About You" are among the best of a strong lot. Listen to the scatting, the walking bass and the sweet combinations and you will appreciate this duo. They perform a mixture a cool ballads and classics that exude a tremendous amount of confidence. There is nowhere to hide and with this level of talent, we welcome both musicians into the spotlight where they are radiant!

    author: Bruce Crowther

Fluid singing and playing mark out this duo set by husband and wife team, Louise Rogers and Rick Strong. She sings, he plays bass and they blend with seamless authority in this attractive selection of songs. Both Louise and Rick bring vast experience to their performances and a clear love for their work, is evident in the enjoyment they transmit to the listener. Both are active in education and it is good to know that the next generation is learning from musicians of this caliber.

  • Louise Rogers, a singer with great chops and a warm, witty approach to song.
    author: Andrew Rowan

Louise Rogers, a singer with great chops and a warm, witty approach to song, owes a debt, whether consciously or not, to the legendary Sheila Jordan. The latter's approach to improvising (note, among other signs, Rogers' scatting on the title track), as well as the voice/bass format, is evident. But Rogers uses these as a jumping-off point to create her own concept. In Rogers' and Rick Strong's hands the voice/bass format works; they combine seamlessly.

  • ... combining an emotional yet tasteful delivery .. their musical collaborative
    author: George W. Carroll

This is a different CD concept, ( vocal with bass backing).....Done quite well by jazz singer Louise Rogers, & jazz Bassist Rick Strong.............(Emphasis on ''strong''). This brings me back to a reel to reel project I created..........(voice & bass), which I did as well with bass phenom Phil Morrison some forty+ years ago. You are ''out there'' as it were! Everything is bared!! Mistakes are not an option. However, the musical symbiosis between Louise & Rick are such that their musical collaborative idea works beautifully. Their interplay is diverse, implied, & versatile......Combining an emotional yet tasteful delivery.........As well as the solid, rhythmic, quality of viable bebop.

  • Tuck and Patti meet Ray Brown and Ella
    author: Jonoma Sronig

Soulful, polished, hip and eminently listenable. Rogers is at her peak, and Strong's performance reminds us, as Stan Clarke once did, that in the right hands, the bass can be can a lead instrument as well as accompaniment - this is his most melodic recording yet. Excellent addition to your collection - if you can catch them at Kavehaz or Borders, you might get your copy signed - but you should do it quick before they're discovered and you can't get near them.
