Enchanting, versatile songstress, PAMELA RUBY RUSSELL, draws from her own adventures - singing atop a Mayan temple, riding an elephant in a Mexican circus and living on a tropical island, to bring her Americana/AAA/World Country Pop flavored tunes alive for you. PAMELA RUBY RUSSELL's independently produced CD, "HIGHWAY OF DREAMS" irresistably invites you to travel with her.

Her songs are perfect for use in film soundtracks, and could easily be recorded by other recording artists with sensitivity and depth.

Besides being a writer, singer and lyricist for most of her life, Pamela has been a restaurant owner, a Tarot card reader, a bar tender in the West Indies, an elephant rider in a Mexican circus, a house painter, a photographer and a vocal coach.

Her life is her art. She writes about finding the strength to make choices and accepting the unexpected twists and turns life presents us, all the while seeking the bliss, and a reason to live.

Hobos and boxcars, Mayan temples, full moons and tropical nights, muggers and policemen, soldiers and sisters of mercy, all looking for a home, a place to belong... accepting the finite, and learning to live this life to the fullest...

A four time BILLBOARD Song Contest award winner, Pamela has had songs aired on many radio stations in the New England area and on web radio as well.

So where did this eclectic artist come from? An adventuress and an enthusiastic lover of life, Pamela has always sought to expand her horizons. She explains, "working sixteen hour days in a funky Cape Cod restaurant

I co-owned in Provincetown, MA wiped me out. I moved to St. Barth's, FWI in the Caribbean to heal and clear my head, to feel the tropical breeze on my skin and get to know myself."

Designing jewelry, meeting incredible people and having fun in the sun, one day an exotic Frenchman challenged her as they walked through a bamboo forest. "So, what do you really want to do with your life?" Bittersweet memories of a little girl playing dress-up, creating fantasies to escape from, at times a not so wonderful reality, she and her grandmother going to the opera, the ballet, the beautiful old piano her now deceased mother bought for her, and hanging out with her friends1 bands in NYC coffeehouses, gave her a fertile place to begin to find the answer. She decided to return to the U.S. to learn how to put music to the pictures inside her head.

Pamela's first rock band, "Beauty and the Beast" achieved recognition in Boston. Her second recording was picked up by Beantown's WBCN. Doors began opening, including being approached by Gordon Meltzer (former manager-Miles Davis and tour manager-Foreigner and Cyndi Lauper), and other Industry interest.

Her life was forever changed, and the seeds were planted for her HIGHWAY OF DREAMS CD when Pamela's godmother, a former Ziegfield Follies girl living in Mexico, asked her to come and visit. A week1s stay turned into almost a year, with stints as a cantina Tarot card reader and Mexican circus elephant rider. Ms. Ruby befriended Andean and mariachi musicians, retired bull fighters, expatriate mystery writers, learned some Spanish, wrote many songs and eventually picked up a bad case of typhoid fever. Pamela headed back to Boston, taking with her a bit of the warmth, generosity and beauty of Mexico that would remain in her heart and in her songs.

Months later she headed back to Mexico in search of the Pyramids of the Sun and Moon outside the puebla of Teotihuacan. She had decided to go to the sacred temple ruins alone at midnight on August 15th 1987, the eve of the Harmonic Convergence, in order to face a nagging fear of the dark. On her way, Pamela was approached by an old Indian man with a drum, and two women. The four of them scaled the barbed wire fence surrounding the ancient site and climbed to the top of the Citadel across from the Temple of Quetzalcoatl. Pamela began singing while the old man played his drum. The next morning before sunrise she went back to the ruins, where a crowd of pilgrims who had been camping at the base of the Temple thanked her for cleansing the sacred site with her voice. An elderly medicine woman asked her to climb up the steep crumbling steps of the Temple for her since she no longer was able to. This amazing moment is captured on HIGHWAY OF DREAMS in the haunting song "AVENUE OF TEARS".

Back in the USA, Pamela knew it was time to let herself be known!! The priceless result is her CD HIGHWAY OF DREAMS, now featured on web and Boston college radio stations and available for sale to you at:

www.Rubytunes.com and www.CDBaby.com/rubytunes.

HIGHWAY OF DREAMS is co-produced and played on by guitar and dobro wiz Peter Calo (plays with Carly Simon). Robert Holmes ('til Tuesday fame W/ Aimee Mann) sings backing vocals. Miguel Jimenez, one of Bolivia's top flautists, plays pan pipes and kena, while drummer Jerry Krenach and bassist Ken Rich (both played with Laurie Anderson and Lou Reed) lay a seriously solid and sensitive groove. Accordionist Evan Harlan lends a touch of Europe to the mix.

Nine different countries are represented in all by the musicians that play on HIGHWAY OF DREAMS, and though each song is uniquely different, they all work together, as chapters in a book.

Pamela has produced a CD that bravely shares her joys and sorrows, her delight in the mystery that is life, with her listeners. Take this opportunity to experience a truly inspired and gifted talent. Let Pamela Ruby Russell's HIGHWAY OF DREAMS take you on a lovely journey. Give a listen to her songs, and you will just have to have your own copy of HIGHWAY OF DREAMS!! Sit back, take a breathe, and smile.

"This CD is a journey into Pamela's technicolor dreams. Exotic, lush, intimate, passionate and fun! A joy to listen to from beginning to end." - MARK BAXTER (Vocal Coach to Steven Tyler/Aerosmith, etc.)

"A beautiful album. A great mix of excellent songwriting and superior musicianship makes Highway of Dreams the best album I've heard this year." - SEAN WHEATLEY (DJ, Seattle, WA)

  • 11 September event. Pamela's music says it all.

 ANN LOVE From: Ann Love ann@reiki-federation.co.uk www.reiki-federation.co.uk Sent: 07 October 2001 18:41 To: Pamela Ruby Russell RubyTunes@aol.com Good to hear from you. Every time I see a photo of a full moon I think of you Ruby, but while I was on holiday in Spain on the 11th September 2001 my immediate thoughts went to you along with a young man from our village in Wales who works as an accountant in N.Y. That day I was tuning into the Sounds of the Sea. The calm blue Mediterranean. It was such a beautiful day all I wanted to do was Live Baby live. Then I had a cellphone call from my friend Kate telling me about the news from America of The Walk Thru Fire in those two buildings. All the peoples of the world shed an Avenue of Tears. If just one of those terrorists has now said 'Didn't Want to Make You Cry' and learnt from it, then there is a glimmer of hope. Hope that the evolution of their souls will eventually develop to bring humankind together through passive means not terror. Lots of storms and rain followed. Usually a cleansing but on this occasion I felt it was the voice of Mother Earth crying angrily 'Is There Any Love?' When I saw my pictures for myself on the news I Almost Gave my Heart Away but I turned my attention to those souls passing over in trauma, asking all my friends to join me in shining a light in heaven to lead the way for them. Asking those souls to look up to the light through to the Highway of Dreams and to send a message of H O P E to their loved ones behind. Your music says it all. Will you write a song for H O P E so we can make it bold and beautiful then put the words on the net for all to catch? Your friend in light and love! AUM SHANTI Ann Love/Ma Sanjnashakti

  • An eclectic blend of heartfelt music.
    author: Joshua David Whitmore

If you are going to try to wrap a genre around Pamela Ruby Russell's debut CD, "Highway of Dreams" you're going to be frustrated. It is a curious and eclectic blend of heartfelt and fun music, which I guarantee will make you alternately smile and cry. I am a producer, and to be honest most CD's that come my way are budget jobs, mixed badly, and mastered on a home system. THIS CD KILLS! Trust me! But this CD, put on your headphones (you SERIOUS audiophiles!), and let Pamela take you places you've never been on a CD before. Then, for those of you lucky to live near her, go see her perform in the Boston area. Now that the Red Sox have begun their August swansong, I guarantee you a more pleasant experience at her shows that at Fenway Pahk! Someone distribute or sign this "chick singer", will ya? If you don't like her, write to me and say, "WRONG, Mr. Producer boy!" I doubt I will see any of those emails. Give me MANY Pamela Ruby Russell's,please. Herein is the hope for pop music's future!
