notes

Simon writes songs. Good ones. Lots of them.

He's been described as 'Elvis Costello meets Squeeze meets XTC.'

He's played everywhere from the Marquee to the Ruskin Arms, and told the Bishop of Chichester to fuck off.

He's not precious about music, but his doctor has advised him to keep writing constantly, to stop great jets of blood squirting out of the top of his head from the pressure.

He's influenced by all the music he hears - even if the extent of that influence is: "That's crap." Chopin jostles for attention with Einstuerzende Neubauten.

His ambition is simple - he wants to be known by the world's rapidly diminishing population of REAL people. People who seek good music - not just acceptable music. You know the kind of people he's talking about because if you're still reading this, there's a very good chance that it's you.

Just don't tell him there's a sound or a style or an instrument he can't use.

Simon Walsh (born Simon Godfrey) is a musician with deep, abiding interest in simple music made with complex noises. He runs his own studio from a room near a railway in South London where he indulges his passion for inserting little sounds into large slabs of silence (while drinking lots of Dr Pepper).

Simon doesn't mind if his heroes are famous or invisible. Such champions that have influenced his writing include Jeff Buckley, Cowboy Junkies, The La's Autechre, Brian Eno & The Blue Nile.

Although he favours recording over performing, Simon performs regularly in the acoustic clubs of London, has played in Europe and even put on a one off show in New York (at the club Mondo Carné, Greenwich Village). In addition he has supported such cult luminaries as Peter Green, Jools Holland, The Dammed & Robyn Hitchcock.

  • A sure fire hit in an unsure world.

This guy KNOWS about how to write a great song. The sounds he chooses are highly unusual but the medodies seep into the part of your head that says 'I'll remember this for ever'. Buying music is such a gamble these days but this new music you can rely on.
