JUSTIN TEXON
He is pursuing his Master of Music as a scholar at the Musik Hochschule "Hanns Eisler" in Berlin Germany.He completed his Bachelor's Degree at St.Scholastica's College with the Sister Baptista Battig Award, the highest award for excellence in Music. As a violinist, he has performed extensively in Asia, North America and Europe as a member of world-renowned youth orchestras. His piece in this album was recorded live during his performance in Potsdam with Mariel Ilusorio, pianist.
KASILAG GUITAR QUARTET
Formerly known as the Philippine Women's University Quartet and the Ars Nova Guitar Quartet. All of the members are individual prizewinners of the National Music Competition for Young Artists (NAMCYA). It is named in honor of Philippine composer and National Artist Dr. Lucrecia R. Kasilag. It aims to explore new possibilities in the art of classical guitar performances in both solo and ensembles settings, broadening the instrument's repertoire through transcriptions and arrangements of music of all cultures as well as commissioned works. FILMER FLORES
He started piano lessons at age four and completed his secondary studies major in piano at the Philippine High School for the Arts, where he was awarded a gold medal for being the "Outstanding Artist for Music". He entered the UP College of Music Arts, where he won the 2nd prize in the Piano Competition. He left for Moscow, Russia to study at the Russian Academy of Music (Gnesin) wherein he obtained his Bachelor of Music degree. He has performed in concerts in Moscow, Rome, the USA, the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Folk Arts Theater and the Filipino Artist Series in 2000. His piece in this album was taken from the 15th Anniversary Commemorative CD of the Filipino Artist Series.
AILEEN CHANCO
Since her debut with the San Francisco Symphony at the age of thirteen, pianist Aileen Chanco completed her studies at the Juilliard School of Music in New York City. She has brought her unique brand of virtuosity and sensitivity to a wide range of audiences. Aileen has been a recipient of numerous awards and scholarships including the "National Foundation for the Advancement in the Arts Award" and the "Presidential Scholar in the Arts Program" conferred by Ronald Reagan. She made her Philippine debut trough SinagTala in 2003. Her piece was taken from her album "Aileen Chanco".
PETER PORTICOS
He holds a Diplominstrumentalist degree from the Hochshule fuer Musik "Hanns Eisler" Berlin, where he studied piano performance and chamber music. He has concertized in various cities in Germany and in Celje, Slovenia. In the Philippines, he has appeared as soloist of the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra, in solo recitals, and chamber music concerts. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from the Ateneo de Manila University and a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance, magna cum laude, from the UST Conservatory of Music. He is currently a faculty member of the UST Conservatory of Music, where he was recently appointed coordinator of the piano department.
CARLOS IBAY
A 24 year-old virtuoso who has captivated his audiences with his extraordinary piano performances as well as his singing ability. He began playing the organ at two. At seven, he inspired Braille piano teacher Doris Trott to come out or retirement to nurture his natural ability. At twelve, he won first place at the Peabody Conservatory Spring Festival and second place in the Steinway Piano Scholarship Competition of the Mid-Atlantic as well as in the Merlin-Engle Piano Competition at the Levine School of Music.
Carlos Ibay has participated and received many awards from other competitions. He made his Philippine debut through SinagTala in 2004. His piano and vocal pieces were taken from his "Chopin Liszt and Rachmaninoff and "Gesu Bambino" albums.
NELSON CARUNCHO
Tenor Nelson Caruncho has performed in opera, recital, musical theater and in television shows in the USA. His piece was recorded live at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign School of Music with Samir Golescu, pianist.
MARVIN GAYRAMON
He is one of the most sought-after and promising baritones in the Philippines. In 1996, he won first prize in the Kundiman Fiesta National Capital Region finals and the NAMCYA Collegiate Solo Voice Category. He was the Philippine representative to the 9th Rosa Ponselle Competition for the Vocal Arts in New York and the Baroque vocal program of the 10th Pacific Music Festival in Sapporo, Japan in 1999. In 2002, he was a semi-finalist at the first edition of the Jeunesses Musicales International Competition for Voice in Montreal, Canada. He has toured the key cities in the USA and Asia doing concerts and music theater performances. He opened his own vocal studio in Butuan City.
MARYA ELIZA DEEDA BARRETTO
She received her Diploma in Creative and Performing Musical Arts with a Major in Voice from the University of the Philippines. She is a recipient of the Grand Prize in the "Kundiman Fiesta;" both the "Mary Garden International Prize" and the "Dorothy Hately Audience Prize" in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1997; and the Outstanding Student Artist for achievement in the international scene in 1998. She performed as a soloist in recitals, concerts, productions of opera, Filipino Zarsuela, special shows, and masses around the Philippines, Korea, China, Japan, the USA and Europe.
LILAC CAÑA
A versatile, dynamic singer/performer, trained in opera, theatre, the concert stage, television, and radio, her performances all sizzle with her unique style and desire to communicate with audiences worldwide. Her innate musicality embraces a wide range of vocal styles, from art songs in several languages, opera arias, jazz, cabaret, Broadway, and contemporary pop styles.
She began classical voice training in Austria and graduated with honors from the University of Toronto Opera Performances program, and studied at the Glenn Gould Professional School at the Royal Conservatory of Music. Her piece was taken from her "Exultate Album".
GRACE CHAN
The Manila-Born mezzo-soprano obtained her Bachelor's degree in Opera Performance and her Master's degree in Voice Performance at the University of British Columbia. The recipient of numerous scholarships, she has performed in the main stages of Vancouver, the Czech Republic, the Burnaby Lyric Opera, and Viva Musica. She was highly acclaimed by Toronto critics for her feature role in "Iron Road." She has participated in concerts and songs recitals in Canada, the US and Asia. She is a teacher, clinician, adjudicator, conductor, and an Affiliate Professor of Voice at the Trinity Western University. Her piece was taken from the "Discover Grace Chan" album.
TECHNOLOGICAL INSTITUTE OF THE PHILIPPINES CHORAL SOCIETY
Since its establishment in March 2002, the TIP Choral Society (TIPCS) has generated numerous accolades such as the Champion at the Star Christmas Carol Chorale Competition, semifinalist at the 1st Wedding Expo Choral Competition and 3rd Runner Up at the Pasig River Heritage Choir Competition. Recently, they performed Gustav Mahler's Symphony #8 at the CCP with other choirs and the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra. It is under the music leadership of Onyl Torres.
PHILIPPINE CHILDRENS CHOIR OF MANDALUYONG
It aims to develop and nurture the musically gifted among underprivileged children aged 8 to 15. The group has performed in the Philippines, Canada, and Korea, where it was a participant in the Children's Choir and Musica Contemporanea categories of the 2002 Busan Choir Olympics garnering silver and bronze, respectively. It is under the direction of Sebastian Trinidad.
SAN BEDA COLLEGE CHORALE
The group won the Olympic Champion title and garnered the highest score in the young Male Choir Category of the Busan Choir Olympics. That same year, it also won the Grand Prize in the College Choir Category of NAMCYA. The group has been performing regularly in concerts, festivals, and competitions in the Philippines, throughout Europe, and North America.
It is under the direction of Robert Delgado. The piece was taken from their recently launched album.
