notes
Steve Dix is an Englishman in self-imposed exile in Cologne, Germany, where he works on his own very special brand of the 1960's British Invasion Sound. Before he moved to Germany he was a member of The Simpletons, a 60's influenced band that was one of the first bands to promote their home-produced songs over the internet.
He started to write this album back in 1998, after the Simpletons broke up. Little did he know that he'd move to Germany on the back of the dot.com boom and, due to various happenings (Life is what happens whilst you're making other plans, to quote a certain Dr. Winston O'Boogie) he'd not get round to finally finishing the album until nearly six years later. The album has been recorded with a bewildering variety of equipment, starting with a cassette 8-track, moving to a computer and then being finished off with occasional visits to a demo studio.
Work proceeds on the sequel, which he promises won't take as long this time. Honest.

Yes, Virginia, that's a Rickenbacker
author: Johnny MoondogIt's great to hear some one writing and playing 60s guitar oriented pop! All of the tracks have really good lyrics and hooks, but my favs are 'Damaged Goods' (yes, Virginia, that's a Rickenbacker), 'The Girl (With the sunshine in her eyes)', and 'October Girls'. Rock on, fellow lefty! Rock on!
Catchy tunes+clever lyrics+hooky beats=brand new mid-6Os pop
author: magnaverdeIf you love mid-60s pop but find 40 years of radio play has dulled the freshness & energy of the genuine article, you need this CD! Like an alchemist, Steve Dix transmutes life's base elements--i.e., problems with finding & keeping a decent girlfriend--into hooky pop gold, circa 1966. The mix of simple but catchy tunes, energetic beats, crisp guitar work--all overlaid with Dix's distictive ordinary-guy delivery of the honest & funny lyrics ("She's the sort of girl who gets her face in the press as a GIRLFRIEND FROM HELL; She's the sort of girl who can't be trusted with a knife if you tell a lie") makes this a keeper. "The Girl (with the Sunshine in her Eyes)" and "Golddigger" are two of the catchiest tunes I've heard all year.
