notes

We are not hip.
We are not trendy.
We are real.
We are like you.
We are what you've been looking for.

We are a Modern Rock band, formed in 1999. Since, we have developed a sound similar to Foo Fighters, Alien Ant Farm and Jimmy Eat World, drawing from influences like The Police, Iron Maiden, Pearl Jam and Rush.

Armed with our mantra, Form Your Own Opinion, and an arsenal of rock 'n' roll anthems, we have been blazing stages across Florida (and abroad) with a vigor rarely before seen or since. Our strength is our energetic live show.

We are one part 90210, one part Maxim magazine. One part Wrestlemania, one part Academia. We have no tattoos or piercings. We are the guys your parents love at first, but then forbid you from ever hanging out with again; the proverbial goody-goodies gone sour.

In August 2003, we released our first full-length record, Tomorrow Can Wait. Since, we've moved 1,000 units. Indie-friendly Focus Magazine called it a "powerful and melodic, with Cave-In's overpowering presence and with introspective edge like Coldplay."

Previously, we sold 8,000 copies of our prior demos, This Bootleg Operation and Form Your Own Opinion. Our websites, www.soulfound.com (and .net), boast over 4,000 unique monthly visitors, over 50,000 monthly hits and 1.5 Gigabytes of both audio and video downloads.

We stand for the fundamentals of life: love, the pursuit of happiness and the rebellion against mortality. Every show may be our last and it shows.

Form your own opinion and join the crusade.

  • What makes or breaks a group is often the singer.
    author: Steve

I usually think that trying to put groups into the 'sounds like' category is very misleading as, unless the comparison is obvious, the judgement is very subjective. The influences here are many and varied - suffice it to say that if your influences are good its a great start...and what a great start. I don't think I have been quite as impressed by a first listen since No Name Face. These comments are less a review of one CD but more an observation on both the full CD and their EP. I came across them by accident when browsing and liked the clips so much I listened to the full tracks through their website link. Immediate impact, and they grow on you as well - the choice of Now is Yours, Repair, and Win You Over, was certainly well considered and shows the band off to good effect. I'm always a bit wary of buying a CD based on a short listen (how many of us have bought CDs based on a track we heard that proves to be the only stand out one on the album!) but no need to fear that here - talented and versatile throughout. This band is a very tight unit, but what often makes or breaks a group at this stage is the singer, and boy can this guy sing. Great sounds, great songs, a real find. Go on, do yourself a favour, pick these up.

  • Most Likely To Succeed
author: Scott Harrell - Weekly Planet

My reaction to the couple of times I've so far seen Soulfound live has been the impression that their energy and presence were top-notch, but the material was a little weak. Listening to their full-length, oddly, gives the opposite feeling: the songs are better than I thought, but Tomorrow Can Wait lacks a bit of the oomph I saw in the set. Of course, that can be said of about 90 percent of self-produced releases, right? Here, standard alt-rock hallmarks benefit from just enough muscle, inventive elements (off-kilter time signatures, harmony guitar lines) and earnest self-investment to rise above the same ol', same ol'. Textured hints of New Wave/'80s pop-rock influence shine through the manly hooks, adding substance to a sound that, at first listen, might be dismissed as a fratty FM take on the last Jimmy Eat World release. Highlights include opener "Now Is Yours," the swinging "So Long Pretender," and "Repair." Were this a "Most Likely To Succeed" competition, they'd win. As it is, this is better-than-average melodic rock from guys who know how to do it well.

  • To be heard immediately
    author: Focus Magazine

Former Gainesville Gators who've relocated to northern Pinellas, making the beach bars there outstanding institutions of original music upon the band's nightly presence. That said, last year's "Offical Bootleg" caught the band searching through different influences, dynamics and textures like any burgeoning group should - but with an ear towards the heavier spectrum. By the sounds, that exercise was sufficient - their latest album is powerful and melodic, like Cave-In's overpowering presence but with introspective edge like Coldplay. Usually, the two sounds never co-mingle, but how better to term genre-benders like "Don't Go,""Own Generic Way" or the obvious radio choice with the metalish-melancholy of "Now is Yours." To be heard immediately.

  • Really have their act together!
    author: Rob

The Soulfound CD "Tomorrow Can Wait" is a showcase of a tight performing band with a mainstream sound than encompasses many familiar style influences. The first cut “Now is Yours” was pleasantly surprising to me as a musician as it is in 5/4 time. As a rule, I tend to appreciate odd-meter tunes and I think it’s a musical skill forgotten in nearly all modern mainstream music. It’s a great song, and maybe the best on the CD. The second track “American Anything” is a straight-ahead Rock/Nu-Punk tune. I liked particularly liked the guitar licks toward the end. “The First Time” and “Don’t Go” have a Gin Blossoms feel to them. One of the things that struck me about “Don’t Go” and the following track “Own Generic Way” is that they sound very similar. While both good songs, they just seemed to kind of run together from a listener’s standpoint and I admit my attention drifted. Perhaps they should have been separated on the disc. I thought “So Long Pretender” was a brilliant piece with a great groove during the verses although the chorus format lost me at first. Along with “Now is Yours”” I’d say this one of the best tracks on the CD. Rounding out the rest of the CD were “Real Full of It,” “Repair” and “Ghosts of Sunset Strip” Which are all very listenable tunes. Production wise, everything is solid. Personally I might have done something a little bigger with the drums but that’s me. The guitars, vocals and bass sound great. The CD also has some tastefully placed of great ear candy in and around the songs utilizing effects, samples and some minor keyboards. Definitely not overdone. All the of musical performances were great with Ivan Pena’s voice reminding me a lot of a cross between an 80s New Wave singer and Tool’s Maynard James Keenan on a tune like “Prison Sex.” The packaging is all-pro with the requisite bar code. I did have to deduct a point for the lack of lyrics on the insert. Although I DO realize the cost differences between a single fold and an 8 panel foldout, the whole “lyrics available on our website” bums me out when I’m listening to a disc and want to follow along. Contrary to the common perception these days, we don’t all listen to music through our computers! Ivan is an expressive singer and I would have liked to see the lyrics included on the disc insert. Soulfound’s “Tomorrow Can Wait” is a great CD with true commercial potential. I’d keep my eye on this band if I were you! They really seem to have their act together.

  • This album has something for EVERYONE@
    author: MBT Enterprises

This CD is power-packed from start to finish. There are touches of prog rock, reminiscent of The Police, and emo/punk, a la Jimmy Eat World, but as soon as you attempt to categorize these guys, they blast you with Iron Maiden-like harmonized guitar leads. My personal highlights include Day to Day, Repair, Real Full of It, and Ghosts of Sunset Strip. The most obvious characteristic of this CD is that you'll come away with 4-5 favorites, whether you like metal, punk, emo, grunge, or polka. Okay, maybe not polka.
