notes
This cd is fresh off the shelf.
Produced by Teddy Kumpel, SPOTTISWOODE AND HIS ENEMIES is a rock and roll feast of horns, guitars and lyrical confusion.
A seventeen song epic from one of New York's cult bands.
Rock, pop, cabaret, bossa nova: this record has no restraint.

Love it! Carries me away.
author: Michelle - sister to LundoTurned on to these guys about 6 years ago. Saw them live in NY last week. Have all their music. Spott just keeps getting better with age. Go out and buy all their music if you don't have it already.
Even in Arkansas We Love Spotty
author: Lawrence PickardWhen they visited Little Rock, Arkansas and played Juanita's, I was introduced to the musical genius that is Spottiswoode and His Enemies. I eagerly purchased the Building a Road CD and instantly became a fan! Of course once you have a small taste you want a bigger bite and I found that CD Baby could satisfy the hunger by providing me with access to more of Spotty and his merry melody makers. This CD jumps and wails from snappy jazz to alt country and weaves a story of lust, power and agnst like no other. It is a bit rawer than the Building a Road album, but it has the taste and flair that makes you wonder why this group isn't bigger than it already is. Personal Faves are Big Black Grin and She's Not in Love. Do you need to have you chakras realigned? Then buy this CD today!
persona grata
author: groupiegirldcIn the lyrics to these songs Spottiswoode assumes many personas. Sometimes, in the arrangements, I even think that he must have sold his soul to be able to compose like he has assumed the identity of the instruments as well. He is a composer and a rock star, and plays live and records with a free-jazz-like rock band that is so skilled and tight you couldn't slip a thin dime between the notes. This music is like good expresso-dark, scaulding, strong, perfumed, exotic and will give you a desperate buzz.
Prepare to be entranced by the new sound of music; Spottiswoode and his enemies
author: Janie MartinezFrom what deliciously demented mind comes a ditty for inmate love such as Rattle the Bars ? Weave you with a snarling horn , and seduce you with an accordion? YES you can sing and dance to this music and enjoy about the lyrics?!!?! ( When was the last time you did that without the help of hallucinogens?) Noneother than Spottiswoode and his enemies, whom I have had the pleasure to see live at Baby Jupiter, NYC. I was absolutely blown away. This CD is such a new sound that you can only say that if you like the idea of Jim Morrisons' dangerous sexuality and circusy theatrics, enveloped with the cerebral joy of David Byrne , siphoned through Leonard Cohen's piano. That, my lovelies, is the surreal, genius, rock-alt-Waits sound of Spottiswoode and his Enemies., This band is HOT and the CD captures the act superbly. Its' not your boss's rock and roll. This is how the millenium sounds.
Saw them in NYC and was blown away!
