notes
John Sprague is an improvisational musician with a long career creating original music for movement, dance, and contemplative listening.
John's beautiful album, "Moving Spaces" was nominated for "Best Instrumental Album" of 2002 by Just Plain Folk! (J.P.F. is a huge independent music organization which reviews 1000's albums for its awards.) The 2nd piece on the album-- "Early Sun: Dance" was also nominated and won 3rd prize for "Best Instrumental Song." As a whole, "Moving Spaces" is an evocative journey through many realms of sound, rhythm, and spirit, ranging from neo-Rennaisance dance to Santana-esque jams. John's flutes, piano, and percussion, are joined by outstanding players on percussion, guitar, cello, and keyboards, improvising together to create a moving tapestry of soaring melody, rhythmic grooves, flute and guitar solos, and mystic contemplations. Offering a fusion of world sounds from primitive to modern, this album is an authentic gem, revealing more and more depth with each listening.
"Fantastic. I use John's albums for all my movement
workshops." D. Lowell, professor of dance
