1. land of make believe - a light childlike, magical melody and chord piano, almost traditionally classical, yet very minimalistic, with a touch of ambient angelic symphony here and there.
2. jade's dream - a jazz fusion, spiro gyra-like multi-track funky groove and melody with a killer jan hammer-like synthesizer solo towards the last 4th of the track.
3. the hundredth monkey - solo piano - an almost latin rhythm with a surprising flow of chordal and melodic changes all the way from beginning to end, with a snappy, yet flowing improvised solo in the middle.
4. sonic pyramids - the combination of triad chords (3 notes at a time, in third intervals apart from eachother) with 3/4 time made me think of pyramid structures and the powerful drums during those chords are why i called this 'sonic pyramids'. this has a kitaro type of sound to the melody and feel.
5. shantawa - a gentle and mysterious flute melody over harp chordal plucking and lush strings. i don't know where the name came from, but something told me it should have this name. if you know what 'shantawa' means, please let me know by sending an email through this web site!
6. tribal secrets - pat metheny-like guitar patterns with a steady conga beat, this song to me is about community spirit, sharing love and joy and respect for one another... some have told me of personal spiritual experiences they have had while listening to this piece.
7. shaman - a transitional piece on this album, this is where the album gets more hypnotic and trance like, and soothing, as the night goes on. i actually designed this cd to become more and more hypnotic and healing as it progresses through the tracks, with the intention to assist in dream time and meditation.
8. the somerset miracle - this is dedicated to the 9 quecreek, pa miners, they're families and rescuers. i was very moved by that story as it unfolded in the news. it has piano accompanied by orchestral and choir like sounds.
9. mystical myst - a loop from this track was licensed for use on www.orisinal.com in the game perilous voyage, animated by the artist ferry halim. i highly recommend you try the all the free online games at orisinal.com! this has harp, light percussion, piano and deep, rich orchestral accompaniment. it's very simple, yet profound at the same time, and repeats a soothing main melody line, like a musical mantra.
10. hypnoprism - a very hypnotic, mellow groove that repeats with subtle variances, designed for enhanced contemplation, relaxation, meditation, dreams, and more.
11. in my dreams i fly with you - a dreamlike floating piano piece that echoes and integrates with your consciousness.

Lavender Dreams: A Digital Masterpiece
author: Mead NotkinSteven Cravis’s new album Lavender Dreams is a digital masterpiece that delivers the profound satisfactions of a perfectly realized work of art. On previous albums Cravis has given us poignant melodies within a context of sensuous acoustic piano playing that at times verges on the sentimental. In Lavender Dreams the sensuality we have come to expect from the Amazing Piano Magician has a new depth and marks the arrival of a mature composer who has thoroughly mastered his medium. That medium is the emerging genre of computer-based electronic music that in the past has been diminished by the mechanical quality of the sound, a shortcoming entirely absent in Cravis. In his new album every instrument sounds as if it were played by hand, so that while the origin of every sound is his keyboard, the music is marked by a craftsmanship as consummate as it is spontaneous. Like Todd Rundgren, Cravis performs every note on his recordings and is equally at home on an animal skin drum as he is on a Mediterranean mandolin, albeit a digital one. Lavender Dreams is a landmark album. It is what fusion tried to be but wasn’t – a journey into the musical unconscious. Fusion’s failure is partially attributable to a commercial mandate to overwhelm its audience with a pseudo-mountain of sound. Cravis unpretentiously takes up the tools of electronica’s loudest experiment and uses them to paint shimmering thought-dreams like a musical Miro. Steven Cravis has found his mature voice. This, his latest album, is a tour de force of technical virtuosity and musical inventiveness that pushes the envelope of what can be achieved on an electronic keyboard. It is a cornucopia of compelling voices and rhythmic invention that ebbs and flows in the imagination with the subtlety of a tidal basin. In addition to being a technical innovator, Steven Cravis is a serious composer. In Lavender Dreams he has fused New Age and Electronic music in a way that transcends both genres and points the way to the unlimited possibilities of digital music.
Going in an excellent direction!
author: AnthonyThis is the first Steven Cravis album to include some non-solo piano New-Age type music and he really pulls it off! I love the new piano solos, but I also like the multi-instrumented songs. It's not as if he's just "trying" to branch out into modern New Age. He really pulls it off, and as can be expected, pulls at your emotions on those songs as well. I highly recommend it.
