    Robert Poe
    Robert Poe
Americana, blues and roots with honest lyrics, haunting melodies and triple-thick-shake vocals.
With his self-titled, bluesy, rockin’, country-tinged CD, Robert Poe gives us an Americana album full of energy and sharp licks mixed and mastered by Grammy-winner Ben Wisch. Robert’s voice is a delight in itself, smooth and rich as a triple-thick shake. With a vocal talent in the tradition of Americana baritones like Dave Alvin, Tony Joe White and Greg Brown, Robert’s CD paints portraits of lust, love, loss and loneliness. The aching loneliness evoked by the last cut, Your Voice, makes for a track as moving as any of the classics of missing-you songs. At the other end of the spectrum, even though the lyrics of When I’m Gone are negative, the overall feel of the song is fun and spontaneous. You can almost hear the smiles on the faces of everyone who played and sang on the track. The album is studded with top-notch performances, including noted Jazz guitarist Matt Marshak, who especially shines on Robert’s I’d Rather Be Blue, a fresh entry in the crooner song category. Billy Masters spices up the CD with plenty of razor sharp guitar licks. Brian Mitchell (Bob Dylan, Al Green, Rosanne Cash) does some sweet keyboard work and bassist Paul Ossola (Levon Helm, Buddy Guy, GE Smith) is outstanding. The CD also features the work of Chris Marshak who lays down drum grooves and produced the rousing cut When I’m Gone. Engineer Ben Wisch may have to make room on his mantle for another Grammy – Robert Poe’s album is that good. Dan Gordon ABC Radio He hits the stage like a force of nature. Black hair, blue eyes that drill their way into your soul, and a voice rich with darkness, romance, drama and the joy of life. This self-titled CD is full of a depth and life-honesty and his songs work well with his stylish, rangy vocal deliveries. This man is a powerhouse! Michael Kosser American Songwriter
