Piano Perennials
Classical piano music: beautifully fluent, expressive romantic style.
Wanda Paik has performed extensively throughout the U. S. and abroad. She has appeared as soloist with many orchestras in the Boston area including the Boston Pops with Arthur Fiedler and Erich Kunzel, the Boston Classical Orchestra with Harry Ellis Dickson, the Boston Civic Symphony with Max Hobart, the Harvard-Radcliffe Orchestra, the Brookline Symphony, and the Wellesley Symphony, among others. As solo recitalist, she has performed at the National Gallery in Washington, DC, the Fogg Museum at Harvard University, and at many colleges and universities throughout the country including Bates, Bowdoin, Brandeis, Colby, Dartmouth, Merrimack, MIT, Northwestern, Regis, Tufts, and the Universities of Hawaii, North Carolina, and Texas. She has also performed at the Parish Center for the Arts in Westford, MA, and at The Center for the Arts in Natick, MA.
Ms. Paik has performed under the auspices of the American Embassy in Brazil and Trinidad, as well as at Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea. She recently presented two recitals at Northwestern University (Evanston, IL) featuring music by the Pulitzer prize-winning American composer Ned Rorem. She has performed with Boston Symphony violinist Marylou Speaker Churchill and cellist Mark Churchill in trio concerts in the Boston area.
Of her performance at the National Gallery, the Washington Post wrote, "Paik's striking interpretation, masterly phrasing and intuitive understanding of the composer's ideas delighted the appreciative listeners--- Chopin's soul and Paik's sensibilities were one."
Ms. Paik received her B.Mus.and M.Mus.degrees from Northwestern University, where she was a student of Gui Mombaerts. She continued her studies with Theodore Lettvin, Anthony diBonaventura, and Adele Marcus of the
Juilliard Music School faculty. She has served as President of the New England Piano Teachers' Association and board member of the Concord Area Music School Association. She teaches at Regis College in Weston, MA.
In celebration of 25 years of teaching at Regis College, Wanda Paik performed as piano soloist in the Beethoven Choral Fantasy, Op 80, with the Smith College Orchestra and a 200-voice combined chorus from Boston area colleges held in February, 2005 at the Regis College Fine Arts Center.
