    The Prisoners
    Prisoners
Original roots reggae and dub music. Unique songwriting and a range of musical influences combine to create an album that is sure to capture the admiration of roots reggae dub and jam-band fans.
This album marks the first full-length studio effort from The Prisoners, a roots reggae and dub quartet from Hampton Roads, Virginia. Members include Walker Pillow (Guitar and Vocals), Zach Moats (Keys and Vocals), Scott Davis (Drums and Vocals) and Brian Moore (Bass). The Prisoners combine years of playing experience with university level jazz and classical training. Formal training, a unique approach to songwriting, and a wide variety of influences, combine to expand the concept of reggae music. Through an upbeat and danceable approach to reggae emphasizing vocal harmonies and group improvisation, the music and energy of the Prisoners’ live performances has generated a fast-growing and enthusiastic following everywhere they have played. Reforming in 2008, the band performed live on 89.5 WHRV-FM Norfolk’s “Out of the Box” and played to a crowd of 600+ at the Peninsula Fine Arts Center in Newport News, Virginia. In January 2009, the Prisoners were featured on Revolutionary Radio in Williamsburg, VA. In the summer of 2009, the Prisoners were proudly voted Favorite Band in the 2009 Virginia Reggae Awards. In September of 2009 the band was honored to play a set at the Hampton Bay Days festival. The Prisoners have been able to play regularly throughout Hampton Roads, VA and the Outer Banks of North Carolina due to continual airplay and the support of the local musicians and friends. The band released their first full-length studio album, “The Prisoners”, in August 2009, and has plans for future studio releases and professional live recordings. The Prisoners continue to preform regular monthly shows in Hampton Roads and seasonal spots at the Jewish Mother and the Outer Banks Brewing station. Throughout their development, the band has promoted and hosted several artists in Hampton Roads including the I-ternals, the 2008 summer I-Grade tour, Pato Banton and the Now Generation, Crucial Elements, and the Transmitters. Members of the Prisoners have worked with cutting edge vocalists: Niyorah, Iba, Danny I, Abja, Mada Nile, Tuff Lion and Black Culture and have shared the stage with reggae greats: Culture, Israel Vibration, Mikey Dread, Midnite, Bambu Station, SOJA, John Brown’s Body, Eek a Mouse, Richie Spice, Pato Banton and Dubconscious.
