    Hamburg Ramones
    Free Phil Spector
    Punk rock.
1996 was a very sad year for music since the greatest Rock'n'Roll band ever ceased to function after 22 years in business. Throughout their career and despite the fact that global success was never in their cards, the Ramones left their marks and broken hearts all over the globe, particularly in South America and Europe, where they left behind and strong and dedicated following literally in despair! Upon notice of retirement was given by the original Ramones, 4 individuals from Germany - drop outs and musical legends in their own right - heard their call of duty and decided that it was time to get back into action and take over the duties from their heroes to keep Rock'n'Roll music alive. They called themselves the Hamburg Ramones in praise of the first ever location for the Ramones to play Germany in 1978 and they dedicated themselves to keeping the Spirit alive! Initial concerts played in 1999 and 2000 created exactly the same excitement which had transformed their heroes into Rock'n'Roll legends. Thanks to long black hair, here you had four guys who did not only look like the original Ramones but they also sounded and played like them, if not better. For Joey you had the lyrical genius and explicit body language of frontman and singer Tommy Ramone, drawing the ladies' attraction. For Johnny you had the strumming charms of guitar legend Ecki Ramone, alias EKT in his former musical life. For young CJ Hamburg Ramones offered the stoic humming of ex-Punk icon Axel Ramone and on drums, last but not least, they offered the sheer power and madness of Hansi Ramone, a drummer straight from the woods with the history of the big beat written in his left hand. Besides constant touring Hamburg Ramones soon decided that it was imperative to them to enter the recording studio and to record original material dedictated to their heroes and their increasingly sad fate. Ingnored by the Record Industry - same as their idols - Hamburg Ramones soon founded their own lable, Riff Randell Records and they released their first Single "Greetings from Heaven" dedictaed to Joey Ramone backed by "Clockwork Ramone" a song written for Marky. Listen to Free Phil Spector: the kings are gone but not forgotten.
