    Powder Mill
    New Mountain
A guard dog chained to three different locks to a moonshine still in the back of your Ozark neighborhood meth lab.
Powder Mill was born out of necessity. Jesse Charles Hammock II (Shady Deal, Jim Dickinson) had been on the road some five years with his band Shady Deal, when he got the itch to leave Mississippi and go home to Missouri to record a solo album. He went to Trumble Hills Studio, nestled in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains, and asked Jeff Chapman to play on his record as well as produce and engineer the recording process. Chapman, who has shared the stage with members of Black Sabbath, Cinderella, and Molly Hatchet, obliged and the process began. They soon enlisted Patrick McSpadden, a local bass player and long time friend, to join the project, and Jesse\'s cousin Andrew Bedell (where these boys come from, family comes first!) to play drums and percussion. Through each member\'s musical influences, the process took on a whole new life, as material ranging from Ozark stomp country to heavy guitar-ridden rock emerged from each of the musicians and long time friends. Before long, the project had turned into a group effort with each member of the band writing song after song. The decision to change the recording from a solo effort to a full blown rock and roll band record happened over night. They chose the name Powder Mill to embrace a historical part of the Current River, a spring-fed river that each member has spent most of their life enjoying. Powder Mill enlisted the help of Tommy Burroughs (John Hiatt, Jim Dickinson, Johnny Lang) to play fiddle and mandolin. Local favorites Bob Lofting, and Olan Bailey also appear on the record. Jesse Charles Hammock II has shared the stage with the Black Crowes, North Mississippi All-Stars, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, and countless others, but in his own words: “I have never felt more comfortable playing with these guys, and have never felt any recording had as much life or intensity as the New Mountain record…” Powder Mill was born out of necessity. These musicians needed to play together and the world needs to hear their music.
