notes
Swamp Cabbage presents truly American music in that the songs paint images of the Southern US areas that inspired them. - the Northeast Florida palmetto thickets and the Louisiana gator water. Founded by North Florida native Walter Parks, the Swamp Cabbage fatback electric ragtime sound is a raunchy foot-stompin' tip of the hat to Tom Waits, Billy Gibbons and Dr John. Swamp Cabbage is new Southern music - different from, yet in keeping with, the North Mississippi All Stars and Mofro.
This year bandleader Walter Parks attained national popularity by hot wiring the PA systems in every US minor league baseball park. He did so in order to play Swamp Cabbage's version of "Frankenstien" on the tenor banjo just as the national anthem singer would take to the microphone. Thousands of copies of Swamp Cabbage's Honk have sold henceforth. Drummer Jagoda is what the New York underground calls a "Bayou Boy". He makes the lion's share of his living on wee hour poaching runs in the Bronx Zoo. Jagoda etherizes snakes, turtles and night frogs with his Bar-Mitzvah style rhumba beats - luring the reptiles to their slaughter to meet the demands of New York's designer fashion market. Mathew Lee Lindsey, on red bass from from Chickamauga, GA, is a direct descendant of General Robert E. Lee's personal battlefield trumpeteer Olieus Witherspoon Linsdey III. Matt is freshly returned from touring deep south debutante balls in support of his first release "Civil War Hymns for Her". This dance sensation is performed completely on solo unplugged electric solid body bass.

author: Daniel ParksA really fine collection of swamp rock that gets your juices going. It reminds me of the time I spent in New Orleans, the Mississippi River, the swamps and plantation houses and the great folks down that way. I look forward to the next Swamp Cabbage CD.

In this made up manufactured world of so called musical artists, these guys are the real deal. Pure, gutsy, original, from the Heart. If you know you have good taste in music, and you know who you are, you need Honk. Thanks guys for putting it together. Now We need more.
Amazing Album
author: Seth DawsonFirst heard the song "Tallahasse" on the radio (local broadcast of an NPR blues show). Knew I had to hear more. All the songs are great, not a weak one in the bunch. I've started my day listening to this CD everyday since it came, it hasn't left my CD player. I actually bought two copies, one for a Xmas gift. Can't wait to hear more from these guys.
I was not disappointed with the whole CD.
author: AlHeard some tracks on the house of blues hour on the radio, had to have it. CD baby fullfilled my need, excellent!
Honk is definetly a BIG hit!
author: LaurieI first heard the song Kilowatt on a local blues show and really liked it. I ordered the CD and had it in my CD player within a week. I have played tidbits for everyone I know and encouraged them to purchase this CD. One friend called it swamp blues rock. The vocals are reminiscent of ZZ Top--the deep, raspy voice of Walter Parks is AWESOME! I highly recommend purchasing this CD.
Keeps Honkin' like a Razorback
author: CJGThis disc has maintained constant rotation in my own personal collection for over 4 years ever since I stumbled upon Swamp Cabbage late one evening in a musky smoke filled pub outside New Jersey's own swamps off Rt 3. I've been hooked on this band ever since. Honk is listenable from front to back and then some.... brilliant song writing, smokin' guitar chicken pickin', growling and soulful vox, all super-glued together by a wash-tub bass groovin' and second line drummer style rhythm section. Truly an amplified dirt road.
Catweezel appreciates Swamp Cabbage greatly
author: CatweezelThis cd was given to Catweezel by a luthier who has made guitars for Iggy Pop and Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top) amongst others, It was playing in the workshop. Instantly Catweezel asked for a copy. Catweezel and Swamp Cabbage share some influences by the sound of it but the translations are different. Honk should be a number 1 album. Why aren't Swamp Cabbage as big as the White Stripes. How can bands like Swamp Cabbage and Catweezel achieve the success they so rightly deserve. I dunno.
Wow! Back to growing up in J'ville
author: Mark MeadersThis is a tremendous stack of music. Great talent and outstanding sound. Someone said "cruising music"; they are absolutely right. Walter's growl sounds like it came right out of the swamps.
Hot Swamp Cabbage Stew

I'v been keeping tabs on this New Southern Rock / Blues legend.
author: BenI've been keeping an eye/ear on this group and their music. The term New Southern Rock / Blues legend is no exaggeration. The time will come when folks will say, "I've got an original Swamp Caggage "Honk" CD." The architecture of these guys background and the way they bring real life to music is refreshingly down to earth. Their music deserves a place in any collection; most certainly they have that place in mine. Keep up the good work guys; I'm looking forward to hearing more in the future. Ben
Funky and Fun

raw, intense and unique
author: Dan LaVoie"Honk" is one hot CD! It's the kind of CD you listen to when you are driving down the highway with all your windows down...The song More Booty with Buddha is my favorite track on the disc!! Go get Swamp Cabbage's CD "Honk"!
the shortest route to the deep south? swamp cabbage.
author: earl patrickfatback, southern, kentucky-fried rock; think early zz top; like "jesus just left chicago" early; the stuff that you can only really listen to on vinyl early. walter parks fronts this power trio, and his gravelly voice delivers the lyrics on a low-frequency platter that will make you want to order a cold beer or, if your high society, a mint julep. you can almost feel the heat and humidity when you listen to their latest record, and if you find that you are fanning yourself as it's playing; don't say i didn't warn you.
Engaging and exciting, honest and true
author: KXPB LPFM RadioWalter played our studio a few weeks back and opened with the Dipstick Rag, an infectious piece that demands another listen. He followed with Tallahassee, which introduced that gravely swamp bayou voice which not only demands attention, but conveys the honest texture of this style. Basically, music you can trust to give you what you think your getting, but you are actually getting more (in style points) The Lid and Silver Meteor(an instrumental) also make the regular play list here as they are upbeat and catchy. The cd in its entirity is always upbeat, with Kilowatt being the most aggressive piece. An excellent choice for any collection.
