"A very appealing jazz singer with a strong voice, a wide repertoire and the ability to swing at all tempos; she does justice to the words she sings, is a fine improviser and puts on memorable shows. Ms. Hunt deserves to be very well known..." S Yanow

THE JAZZ CHASER
Tamm E. displays a vocal texture and style that only arrives with years of due diligence in preparation along with some serious natural talent. Connect this to the extraordinary musicianship of jazz giants like Gary Bartz and Eric Reed; mix in some classic jazz favorites and do it live at Birdland.
Come on! You know this one's on time. Tamm E. Hunt Live @ Birdland is quality jazz the way it is supposed to be. Tamm E.'s improvisational vocal skills are noteworthy on every tune and outstanding on Blue Skies, God Bless the Child, and Summertime. Although she clearly has her own unique style and voice, one can unquestionably hear overtones of Little Jimmy Scott and maybe a combo of Nancy Wilson and Sassy at times. She sounds like Tamm E.; and that's a good thing.
Also the master himself, Gary Bartz, does his normal day at the office. Tone, range, timing, innovation; it's all there.
This CD is a treat, and it belongs in your collection. It's in mine!
Peace! The Jazz Chaser

Vocalise that is husky, burnin,' tight, swingin,' & in the vernacular of 'Carmen.'........ These are all the positive qualities I'm hearing in Tamm E. Hunt's new vocal CD project, ''Live @ Birdland.''
Let me add too, that Gary Bartz's reed-work is the perfect counterpoint and compliment to the project. But, let us bemoan the fact that his light has yet to fully shine on the global musical scene. The best metaphor I offer on behalf of the project is comparing it to a cocked and loaded 44-magnum...........BANG!! Now she's got our attention!

Super Listening!
author: Hillel in JapanListening to Tammy in person (once in NYC and once in Osaka, Japan) was a great experience, and this cd comes close to matching that. 'Summertime' and "My Funny Valentine" are particularly great! Buy it, enjoy it and support Jazz for Kids.

Tamm E. Hunt Live @ Birdland (New Jazz Audience) A major force on the East Coast, Tamm E. Hunt, in addition to being a fine singer, has long been an activist for jazz. The founder of Harlem Jazz Foundation Inc. (presenting many concerts), Ms. Hunt also founded Adopt A Kid 4 Jazz and Jazz 4 The Beginner. She has long worked to introduce jazz to younger generations and her company, New Jazz Audience, is named after a constant goal of hers. She has also been a television host, an actress and a lecturer. Despite all of this, Tamm E. Hunt is not yet a household name although she looks like she is on her way. Her debut CD for her New Jazz Audience label features the highly appealing singer leading a group that also includes altoist Gary Bartz (doubling on soprano), trumpeter Mac Gollehon, pianist Eric Reed, bassist Don Moore and drummer Will Terrill. All of the eight songs on this live set are well-known standards yet Ms. Hunt is able to make them sound lively and relevant through her highly expressive style and her subtle creativity. She digs into such tunes as Autumn Leaves,You Don't Know What Love Is and My Funny Valentine, adding sensitivity and swing while inspired by her fine sidemen. This excellent outing is recommended and available from www.cdbaby.com/cd/ tammehunt.cd. Scott Yanow

I never heard of Tamm E Hunt until surfing the CD BABY site...I was blown away! Her bio says she is a well kept Jazz secret. Well not for long. Where have they been hiding her all this time? And why?
