notes
Born in New York City, Steve grew up in Australia, Canada, and New York. The son of a jazz pianist and the grandson of a magician, he started performing early and learned music at home. Steve spent several years working odd jobs around the U.S., writing, performing, and developing a personal musical style of folk and rock.
2003's "Stopped at a Green Light" is Steve Tannen's second solo release. It features most of the musicians who played with Steve in NYC in the early 2000's; it also marks the beginning of his collaboration with Deb Talan, with whom he would soon form The Weepies.

AS USUAL - AWESOME!
author: MarigoldSteve Tannan is one of the best artists to arrive on the music front in many years! Stopped At a Green Light is another moving collection of music from an incredibly talented performer and an outstanding song writer. Listening to this CD is to experience a very positive, shoot-from-the-hip no holds barred emotional catharsis. Love him with Deb Talan in the Weepies, but I hope he continues his solo work as well.
Do Not Stop
author: JakeStarts out strong and never holds back. Musically to me it sounds like the beginning of the Weepies sound. More upbeat than Big Senorita, and maintains the intelligent writing. I liked hearing "Rocks and Water" here since this one also made it onto the Weepies album but with Deb taking the lead vocals. A must have for Steve and/or Weepies fans. The day I discovered the Weepies was more than a 5 star day, getting Deb and Steve's back catalog has been equally rewarding.
Heard you originally through a Weepies tune
author: RJ Thomas , Lethbridge AB CanadaI was shocked to hear your ability on the guitar - awesome. Your voice is one of a kind and matches your lyrics style. I'm already trying one of your tunes out myself on my guitar, but some parts are tough as I'm a lefty who plays a right handed guitar upside down / backwards, but I'll keep trying. Thanks Roland
Steven Tannen just gets better and better
author: Stacey B.This CD was worth the wait. Whether solo, like on Stopped at a Green Light, or working with Deb Talan on the Weepies CD, Steve Tannen can write interesting and intense songs and has a great voice. This CD is getting heavy rotation in my personal playlist; there isn't one bad song to be found.
giving you the green light.
author: Jay JaschMr. Motel did it again! A great CD to add to your collection of future stars (in my opinion, current stars). Nice choice of instrumentation. An album graced with intelligent yet freeflowing story songs crafted with artistic subtlety and a good amount of punch. The music here is perfect for music lovers who want to be in the know or those who already realize and relish in this awareness. Buy this CD, play it for your friends and family and see if they can ignore it like they do with the overplayed artists on corporate radio. Not likely.
oh yeah
author: cowboy jane, little rockoh yeah, love the voice, dig this deep little gem.
tremendous songwriting and voice
author: andrew sakeexcellent, love it, keep it coming.
Infectious melodies, smart lyrics, and wonderful playing rolled into a seamless
author: alan neuenschwanderI'm not a kid. I just turned 50, but avid listeners never grow tired of timeless songwriting. This is simply good craft. Infectious melodies, smart lyrics, and wonderful playing all rolled into a seamless album. Is it better than BIG SENORITA? I don't know yet, but this is an artist with a bright future. I look forward to watching his career unfold.
Excellent.
author: Joe K.Getting heavy rotation in our house. Terrific tunes, very cool production.
Steve does it again...
author: AAonkeyThis CD caught on for me just like Big Senorita did; this stuff is awesome. I find it hard to believe nobody has named "Sick to the Bone" as a favorite. My faves are (surprise) "Sick to the Bone", "Allison is Crazy", "Good Times", and "Hard Luck Kid". Not a dud to speak of on this one though, highly reccomended.
pretty great, if you already own Big Senorita
author: Maggie GoodmanWhile I don't think the recording captures the richness of Steve's voice as much as Big Senorita, which is on permanent replay in my room, the songs on this album are catchy, and Deb Talan on backup is beautiful. I especially like "Hard Luck Kid" and "Picture of You."
One of the best I own
author: Matt Morris - Dallas, TxI bought this album along with Big Señorita and it hasn't left my player yet. There are so many highlights on this record that I'm not quite sure why he's not across the airwaves yet. "Allison Is Crazy", "Hard Luck Kid" "If You Don't Feel That Way", and "Picture Of You" are all fantastic.
another amazing record
author: randiAnother rocker from tannen...where does he get this stuff?? Great music.
