notes

Composer/Singer Tia Knight, born in 1969 in Meridian, Mississippi, had a strong love of the piano at an early age, sparked by her grandmother, Star.

Moving on to keyboards in her early twenties, she discovered how to weave sounds both gripping and focused.

Blackwood, her debut release in 1999 is a journey not only to another time, but to another place.

Homequest, released in 2003 breeds a collection of tunes filled with bewitching vocals and laced with Medieval overtones.

Smoke & Mirrors is a new sound from Tia Knight swirling with Sexy.

What listeners say . . .

Tia,

Dearest Tia,
I somehow ran across your music searching out music instrumentals on Napster.com and was able to download your song entitled “Raindance.” All I can say is it's breathtaking! The first time I listened to this song it made the hair on the back of my neck and my arms stand up. It was absolutely breathtaking! I believe I've heard it in a dream long before I actually heard it . . . Thank you VERY much,
Michael B.

Tia Knight, "Away". Tia Knight is someone you've never heard of. And you should. Singer/songwriter from Nowhere, Mississippi. Has self-released three fantastic albums. This one (Smoke and Mirrors, 2005) goes in a much more electronic direction than her previous albums, but also a much sexier direction-- and Knight is dead-on sexy, not this pre-teen pop-tart silliness we're all used to thanks to Radio Disney. Thoroughly bloody awesome. Go. Listen. Buy. (Full disclosure: I am not a paid shill for Tia Knight. But if she decides to start paying me, I will edit this post, 'cause I'm probably her biggest fan.)

  • Smoke and Mirrors adds a new dimension

Tia Knight, Smoke and Mirrors (Blackwood Manor Music, 2005) Unsigned piano-pounding chanteuse Tia Knight has released three albums to date, good if you like that sort of piano noodling that's a step above the new-agey crap pumped out by music factories like George Winston and Mannheim Steamroller. Smoke and Mirrors adds a new dimension, though-- I'm not sure what happened, but Knight seems to have suddenly gained a whole lot of confidence, which is best summed up on the slinky, sultry "Away" (and Knight has the chops, in the looks department, to get away with it where a good number of people who release stuff like this just make me laugh). One of the many examples of an act who would probably get pretty popular if the music industry were dominated by word of mouth, or where radio station playlists weren't strangled by payola.

Hello Young One, I look every once in a while to see if life's experiences have given you new revelation to bring out new creations and transliterating your thoughts into Musicial sight. Drenching the mind with your Audio concepts, feeling the distance we put between us and the things that bring the stale state of life and hope. Being a venturous type of person that looks for the obscure and distant that man seems to avoid. Your Music is a place to stop and rest and reflect the days travel. Have you taken the time to visit the Movies and take in Stardust. I tend to enjoy Movies to escape the everyday drain on life. Only I am very selective these days as I muture into a older seeker. I guess this is why I enjoy your music Sojourn;it has completely translated into a langague with it's own characters forming into the mind's thought of the listenership opening into another place of contemplation. I find it relaxing and giving power to drife within my mind. Yet, your music delivers within it's sound a transiency allowing escape within the moment. Looking forward to new sounds, I hope the barriers that place themselves in your path are those that you can conquer and overcome. Have you ever given rise to incorporate some of the older Celtic instruments into you sound bringing your music to a higher level within your musics expression and Langague. It's just a thought. I have been listening to your Music and I haven't heard the fury that a Woman could express. Most Women have a hidden place that is a mighty warrior ready to do battle with the fury of a crashing explosion of expression. Your Flagstaff in Arms comes close but I see in your eyes when looking at your pictures that the Woman within has a greater power and hidden strength. Your music is bold here, but not violent in the way a soul gets when in turmoil. I listen to Jazz it can appear to be a total explosion of nothing sometimes, but I find when sitting long enough with a piece the translation starts to appear. Music is a Langague the has to be learned like a tongue not known to us. It is the seeker that finds the translation of understanding the Langague. It is the producer of the Langague to intrigue and reach out to capture those that can't seem to stop or slow down to listen. The Langague must snap them in their moment. It is like a scream, no one know someone is in need till they hear the screech that brings them to a place of wondering. Like a car wreck everyone looks as they pass, it is within our curious nature to do so wanting to know what is within the moment. Your Music a place that reachs out to those who seek, yet if you made that one screeching cry within the car wreck it would open the eyes of those that have the wisdom to understand your sound but just haven't the time to find it. Become that which is within you that place where we all have had that car wreck within our soul. Bring it out don't worry about what a producer says put it on a disc and watch how many slow down to see what is happening within that moment. This music should incorporate that scream or crushing of metal within it. It should bring out the curiosity of our human nature. Tesstone has your Cat like moment, your Music is an expression. It is that one song that transcends that barrier of those who don't slow down that must grab their attention. When that song appears that Jazzy feeling some of your sounds have will slowly open the closed eyes to see and be able to read your sounds as they learn to translate the Langague you have produced.
