notes
This version of the album will be superceeded sometime in the next couple of months - it will have the new version of Rise Above It and some of the other tracks have been tightened and re-mixed. Also the inside of the artwork has been re-done. Some folk may prefer this version of TTF? and for that reason I am leaving it up here and also reducing the price. Tim 13/10/08
Take the Fruit? is a soulful collection of songs ranging from the inspirational "Rise Above It" & "All Joy" to the political anti-Big Brother "Song for David" (about David Icke). Reflective moments combine with catchy tunes and thoughtful lyrics. With REAL drums this album has a solid backbone and a firmer structure than Silent Running - a definite step up!

Thoroughly enjoyed [the CD]. Great stuff mate!

A most enjoyable CD - the live drums give it a much better feel overall. Good song structure and laid back feel throughout.

Really enjoyed the first few 'listenings' of Take the Fruit? Great lyrics too!

At 44:35 minutes this is a good length for an album: like the old classic LPs!
“Rise Above It” has a nice bass sound, nice lead work / solo. With both bass, and banjo figures, there is a slight Fleetwood Mac influence here.
“Work it all Out” I could imagine being played live at about 2:00pm at a big festival and children dancing in puddles, because it has an excellent vibe!
“Troubadour” reminds me of Dire Straits, especially vocally. Nice drums!
“Life Ain’t So” - I like the fuzzy guitar, and the synth / keyboard notes. Ended just as vocal was about to get too repetitive!
Like the drums on “Distant Charms”.
Hope you will be sending David Icke a copy of "Song for David"!!
I especially like the keyboards – both the sound and the chords used on “All Joy”.
“My Day” is the song I would choose for a single. Reminds me of when I had access to Radio 2. I’ll bet Johnnie Walker would like this, maybe Whispering Bob too.
There is an orthodox approach to the construction of the songs, which is not my preferred style, but which does allow accessibility [more commercial]. Being familiar with the Bragg drums, and now the voice too, I knew what to expect. The pleasant surprise element was the bass – very solid and rich sounding. All the sax playing works very well too.

Hi Tim - had first listen of your CD today. Here's my feedback -
Best tracks for my taste are: Take the Fruit, My Day, I Wish You & Distant Charms. Liked both their music & lyrics. Not keen on the la,la,la bit in Work It All Out but it may grow on me & I could end up driving everyone bonkers singing it! The one about the cameras [Song for David] was a bit too political for me - I like people & emotions in music.
The recording quality sounds very good. The music sounded very clear & professional but hearing your lyrics was easier on some than others. Maybe better on a CD player as so far have only listened via pc.

I've listened to your songs, and I think that they are very impressive, both musically and the production.

Soulful Rock
author: TT BrightThis is a smooth, soulful, deep, collection of songs - I keep singing Rise Above It and Work It All Out - the artwork is excellent too!
A bit of a curates egg mate...
author: Jeff YouknowwhoOf all the tracks, only a few really stand out,on first hearing.I Wish You,My Day and Take The Fruit. All three make sense, have simple melodies and are uncluttered by any unnecessary over-complication. I'll keep listening, there may be some more pearls to discover yet...
A collection of well crafted songs.
author: KevinThis is a collection of well crafted (soulful?) songs fitting well within the genre of popular music. The songs have an unashamedly easy listening (commercial?) sound to them featuring a range of beautifully played instruments including a sax that seems to meander throughout the overall production. Best tracks for me are Rise Above It and My Day.
