TranslucenT is the collaboration of multi-instrumentalist Ray Regan and cellist Elaine Kreston. Their new cd, chromosphere, contains original compositions that feature the cello with a rich combination of acoustic, natural and electronic elements: Blackbirds and strings, guitar, mandolin, didjeridu....
From Yoga and Tai Chi practitioners to the frustrated driver longing to transcend rush hour, TranslucenT's music has soothed and inspired many.

More about the individual artists:
Elaine Kreston received her bachelor's degree from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, and her MM from the University of Texas. She has performed throughout the USA and Europe, including Carnegie's Recital Hall, as soloist on Broadway, Chicago's Orchestra Hall, and broadcasts on NPR and KPFA. Formerly a member of symphonies in Texas and California, Elaine now performs primarily in chamber music settings.
Elaine is a founding member of the classical Maybeck Trio, and of the meditative-soundscape duo, TranslucenT. Blending her background of classical music with improvisation, she has performed as soloist at the events of Adyashanti and Eckhart Tolle, and is frequently seen and heard with Krishna Das. Elaine also performs with Eric Schneider in RumiCello: a collaboration that beautifully mingles the poetry of Rumi with the sounds of the cello. As a recording artist, Elaine adds her mellow tones to the albums of singer-songwriters and movie scores, in addition to her own releases.
Ray Regan is an accomplished artist on a wide array of instruments, both acoustic and electronic, including guitars, mandolin, banjo, keyboards, samplers, and percussion. Sounds of nature and wide-open spaces also find their way into his work. In addition, Ray is the creator of several one-of-a-kind musical instruments including the agavatar, the agavadrum, and a set of sub-octave digeridu that add a wonderful ambient bass line to the cello melodies in TranslucenT.

very soothing... something different
author: Andrea RosenfeldI enjoyed the CD very much. To be honest, at first I thought I might not like it because I am not big on "new age" type music, but I was pleasantly suprised! And I was trying to analyze what made it different that the "other" type of music that I don't like, and I came to the conclusion that is was your cello! It lent the music something that was very soothing, kind of asian, and something different.... Anyway, I listened to it on the way home from your concert, which was in the pouring rain and took almost two hours! Then, the next day on the way to work I listened to it... I ended up being so much more relaxed than if I had listened to the radio. So, with all of these examples, I wanted to tell you HOW much I am enjoying it, and to THANK you for sharing your wonderful talents!

There are places where the cello is heard primarily, and other places where other instruments are prominent. This CD exemplifies the best aspects of ensemble and, incidentally, of top quality jazz performances, where one instrument after another, takes the music forward. It is a CD that encourages listening, over and over and over.
