notes

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT "FRIENDS":

""Friends" is particularly useful in teaching children about friendship and the diversity of people. This is an excellent teaching tool as well as a wonderful source of entertainment for children."
- Diane Brown, Health Education Project Director (Philadelphia, PA)

"I love your music. It makes me want to sing along."
- Aaron Urist, 7 yrs. old (Ann Arbor, MI)

"Our kids at Hollywood Elementary love your music! Some of our teachers used your "Hello" at a multicultural presentation"
- Betsie Camilliere, teacher, Hollywood Elementary (Hollywood, MD)

"I love it! I just can't keep the songs out of my head - I keep singing them!"
- Margaret Swain, buyer, John's Music catalogue/store (Seattle, WA)

"Everything about it is great."
- Ben, Wendy & Larry Steinberg (PA)

"The CD is nothing less than Brilliant! We are all enjoying it."
- The Dineen family (Ardmore, PA)

"David and Jenny, otherwise known as the fabulous musical group Two of a Kind, have just put out a new album of songs for kids and we just happen to think it's absolutely super fantastic!"
- Borders Books (Philadelphia, PA)

"Just wanted to send you a note to inform you of my great appreciation for your music and what you have contributed to the children's music industry. I am an early childhood teacher. I love your music."
- Lisa Schultz, early childhood teacher

"We listen to David & Jenny's tapes in the car all the time... All the kids we cart around love the songs."
- Meg Ash, parent (Atlanta, GA)

"I have just gotten my class/workshop plans in order for the rest of the year, and I am using many songs from Two of a Kind. I especially love your Hello song. I like the way you leave time for processing and repeating. Many musicians do not, and their music is lost to the younger ones."
- Melanie Iversen, early childhood music educator (Raleigh, NC)

TWO OF A KIND BIO (Family/Children's Performers)

Two of a Kind is an award-winning, nationally touring, husband-wife duo from the Philadelphia area, specializing in interactive music for children. David and Jenny Heitler-Klevans have been singing together since 1987. Their energetic, participatory performances are enjoyed by kids and adults alike. Two of a Kind helps audiences of all ages feel that they can create music and that they can make a difference in the world.

Two of a Kind presents musical programs for children of all ages, including songs, movement, sign language, puppets and stories - all with an emphasis on interaction and participation. Themes of songs and stories range from friendship and animals to social issues such as the environment, conflict resolution and diversity.

David, who received his bachelors degree in composition from Oberlin Conservatory of Music, has taught music to children and adults since 1982. Jenny has a background in training, education, creative writing, movement and dance. Jenny was a member of the Anna Crusis Women's Choir for four years and sang on the group's recording "Fresh Cut". David and Jenny are active in the Children's Music Network, and Jenny is currently on the board of CMN. Two of a Kind is on the artist rosters of the PA Council on the Arts, the NJ State Council for the Arts, Young Audiences of Southeastern PA and the Odyssey Program of the Philadelphia Folksong Society. David and Jenny are members of AFM Local 77 (Philadelphia) and Local 1000 (the North American Traveling Musicians' Union).

Two of a Kind has released six recordings, including five recordings for children: "Patchwork Planet", "Going on an Adventure", "Connections", "Friends" and "Love Makes a Family". "Patchwork Planet" won two 2002 Children's Music Web Awards: "Best Educational Recording for Young Children" and "Best Recording for Older Children". "Going on an Adventure" and "Connections" both won 1999 Parents' Choice Silver Honors. "Going on an Adventure" also won "Classic Recording for Preschoolers" and "Classic Recording for Younger Children, 5-8", and "Connections" also won "Best Music for Older Children" in the Children's Music Web Awards. David and Jenny have also produced their own "two of a kind": twin sons named Ari and Jason born in January 1995!

Two of a Kind has appeared at festivals, concert venues, schools, libraries, aquariums, zoos, museums, daycare centers, camps, and on radio and television.
