Award-winning folksinger Chris Vallillo uses historic narratives, contemporary folk music, and period folk songs Lincoln may well have known and sung to bring Illinois' favorite son and his times to life in this roots based recording featuring the rich acoustic textures of bottleneck slide, finger style and flatpicked guitars, mandolin and fiddle that echo the influences of Mississippi John Hurt, Norman Blake, Doc Watson and John Fahey.

    I gave this cd to my dad as a father's day gift. He's interested in folk music and civil war history, so this cd was a great match for him. he listened to it right away. He enjoyed reading the stories behind the songs and also learning about how tunes like aura lee and rosin the beau have been made into other songs.

    Bought this for my daughter, who has the same birthday as Abe, to add to her collection of "night time music". She loves it. I think it's a great record - refreshing in its authenticity, engaging in its subject matter. The performances are top shelf as well; kudos to Chris Vallillo (and his band) for both technique and musicality.
