Roy Vogt has been playing electric bass for 34 years and teaching for 26.
He took up the instrument in Texas at 14, inspired by Jack Bruce, Jack Cassidy, Chris Hillman and Noel Redding. His first mentor, Dallas bassist Ed Garcia, turned him onto the playing of Ray Brown and Stanley Clarke and detoured the young bassist into jazz and fusion. Roy worked in a variety of Rock, Funk and Country bands in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area until he joined the Texas fusion band Aurora.
This led to gigs opening for Larry Coryell and the LA Express and allowed Roy to meet and learn from Stanley Clarke, Miroslav Vitous, and Max Bennett. At the same time, Roy earned his BA in Music from the University of North Texas (then NTSU). The music of the Dixie Dregs, Mark Egan with Pat Metheny, and Jaco Pastorius led Roy to graduate studies at the University of Miami Jazz program, where he received the first Masters in Electric Bass Performance awarded in the US in 1980.
In 1980, Roy moved to Nashville, TN where he has worked with Allman Bros guitarist Dickey Betts, country guitar legend Jerry Reed, and a host of major label Rock, Country, Contemporary Christian, and Pop acts. He was the staff bassist on Channel 4 magazine (WSMV-NBC) from 1983-1987 and has taught at Belmont University since 1983. He is currently working in the Nashville studios as a bassist and producer and preparing for tour dates with his own band, guitarist Stan Lassiter, and other projects. He is also an endorser/ clinician for Conklin, Carvin, and Hotwire Basses and Eden Amps.
Roy is married and lives in rural Tennessee with his wife Dee Dee, his son, 3 dogs, 2 cats and a motley assortment of basses.

Superb Compositions...Visionary & Masterfully Sage...

author: Pete VescovoRoy present his superb talent in this, I suppose, his first solo effort. He presents his instrument, the bass, in a wide variety of musical styles with good taste, authority and smooth execution while leaving plenty of room for the other musicians on the record to play as well. Roy is very subtle in his approach and does not bang the listener with endless solo choruses just to prove he can play. He truly understands the role of the bass in popular music and lays it down. Then, he takes the bass to the front of the band while maintaining good taste and musicality. Records this good come only from genuine talent and years of experience. This is a very musical friendly CD that one can listen to over and over again and hear something new each time.
