This Austin singer/songwriter brings back traditional country soul with a sound all his own. His lyrics are humorous, thoughtful, and at times sarcastic.

Wake's melodies are diverse and uninhibited. His music is bold and he puts it out there his way. This isn't background music, my friends.

The time has come to head down a road less traveled. Wake Eastman has bottled up a mood and attitude in his Against the Grain CD that takes the listener on a welcomed journey - away from the fabrication and predictability of today's pop country.

Whether it's chasing tornados in Texas in May the Lone Star Flag Forever Fly, or hoping that the Light at the End of the Tunnel ain't a train, you'll find yourself anticipating a new adventure with each song. Even the ballad, Raining All Over My Heart (duet with Texas country music star, singer-songwriter Pauline Reese) testifies to Wake's bold and edgy style. This edginess coupled with the sarcastic lyrics in How Can I Miss You put the song in the 2003 movie Lone Star State of Mind. The song What Are Fences For begs an answer to a deeper question of 'why can't we get along?.

    Against The Grain is one of the greatest country cd's I've heard in a long time. "Light At The End Of The Tunnel" and "Battle Of Wounded Me" are strong Country Rock songs, while "A Day In The Life Of A Fool" is remanesent of classic honky tonk. When the chorus of "How Can I Miss You" came on, I laughed out loud. Wake Eastman has his own style, while stayin true to solid country roots. It's a refreshin turn from the pop mess on country radio today.

    This could be the most honest and real country sound that I have heard in a long while. Wake's soulful voice along with his true to life lyrics are a fresh reprieve from the over played performers heard on new country format radio stations. Although I can't hear it enough, I have worn out this CD and can't wait for Wake's next release...Get 'er done!
