"We'll Carry On" - West Street Records - WTC benefit CD
FDNY, PAPD, WTC volunteers & local NYC musicians brought together for 9.11 tribute concerts create "We'll Carry On" - album of 16 original songs. Each component of the CD was donated: songs, cover photo, artwork, production, manufacturing, printing, mastering.
100% of net proceeds benefit WTC related charities: WTC Ground Zero Relief, PAPD WTC Disaster Survivors Fund, 9.11 Victims' and Families' Association.
Free panoramic WTC 'mini' poster included, signed by members of FDNY, PAPD and NYPD ESU.
WTC Ground Zero Relief volunteer Valerie Ghent (producer/singer-songwriter) organized three 9.11 benefit concerts featuring members of FDNY, PAPD, NYPD and WTC volunteers as well as local NYC musicians. Documented by the NY Times, NY Press & American Songwriter, these concerts presented 'voices from the trenches', songs written and performed by fire fighters, police officers and volunteers who worked at Ground Zero.
The CD cover is an original panoramic photo poster of WTC Tower 1 and NYC, taken from the observation deck of Tower 2 on 1/1/2001; this poster is surrounded by hundreds of signatures of FDNY, PAPD, NYPD who were part of the recovery effort at Ground Zero. The signatures were collected on site from October 2001 through Feb 2002.
Valerie Ghent met photographer Everen T. Brown in October 2001, through fellow WTC volunteer Kevin McCrary, who collected the signatures, in a chance meeting at Nino's Restaurant where volunteers and rescue personnel went to eat free meals every day.
Acknowledging the importance of this music and of this signature poster, Valerie Ghent produced "We'll Carry On," the CD of 16 artists for indie label, west street records.

I was so moved.....
author: Mark F. FletcherI was so moved by this CD , the artists have put into words what my heart has been crying for 4 years.
Excellent CD. Brought back many memories.
author: ChaplainCBEThis CD has a wide variety of styles of music and was very moving. Having worked in NYC following the attack on Sept 11th it reminded me of the emotions of the wide cross section of people I worked alongside. The lyrics went right to my heart. Especially The Men. Great job Valerie.
Important and noteworthy CD - "powerful" says President Bush on 9/11/02
author: Jim Bessman, BILLBOARD MAGAZINEBILLBOARD MAGAZINE - SONGWRITERS & PUBLISHERS, Words & Music, by Jim Bessman. Oct 12 2002. GHENT'S GIFTS: New York songwriter/producer/performer Valerie Ghent is active in a number of areas, most visibly as keyboardist/backup vocalist/ProTools engineer for Ashford & Simpson and as host of the Songwriter's Beat series of monthly acoustic songwriters' nights at the Cornelia Street Cafe in Greenwich Village. There, she books a variety of musical stylists and encourages performers to play new material. (She also holds a regular Songwriter Beat Clinic workshop there that covers the business aspects of songwriting.) Like so many other local songwriters, Ghent was deeply affected by the horrors of Sept. 11th, 2001, and on March 11 organized a pair of benefit concerts commemorating the six-month anniversary of the World trade Center (WTC) attack. On her own West Street Records label she recently released "We'll Carry On", a WTC charity CD featuring 16 artists from those concerts - more than half being members of New York's uniformed personnel or, like Ghent herself, WTC Ground Zero Relief volunteers. The CD cover is also noteworthy in that it shows a panoramic photo poster of the WTC's Tower 1 and the city skyline taken from the observation deck of Tower 2, surrounded by hundreds of signatures of recovery personnel. Ghent attended the Sept. 11 first anniversary ceremonies at Ground Zero. "It was a long and painful day, but in the midst of it all there was such an affirmation of life," she says, singling out an unexpected opportunity. "I was at the bottom of the WTC site when the president and first lady walked down the ramp. I stayed back as he moved around the circle, greeting the families of the victims. Then he started signing autographs, and I realized I could get a CD to him as people were passing cards for him to sign. It was given to a Secret Service agent." Ghent then approached National Security Advisor Condoneeza Rice, Secretary of State Colin Powell, New York Govonor George Pataki, Mayor Mike Bloomberg and former mayor Rudolph Giuliani, presenting CD's to all. "I explained to Condoleeza who the songs were by and whose signatures were on the cover, and she warmly said how much she appreciated it and that she would treasure it," Ghent says. "Colin Powell was moved by the cover photo and put the CD in his back pocket. "Then I realized that the president was merging with the crowd, so I went over to him, gave him a CD, and said, "Mr. President, thank you for coming here today. It is my honor to present you with a CD of songs written by firefighters, police, volunteers like myself and local NYC musicians'. He looked at it, then thanked me for giving it to him and thanked me again when I told him about the signatures on the cover and that they were the uniformed personnel who had cleared the very space we were standing in. He looked me straight in the eyes and said, "Thank you, all the people on this CD. Thank you for all you’ve done.' Then he looked at the signatures and said 'All these people,' and paused, then continued: 'This is powerful. You see, that's what I'm going to talk to the American people about this evening.'" We'll Carry On is available through Ghent's weststreetrecords.com Web site. She reports that the Coalition of 9/11 Families is using two of its songs for an upcoming DVD release and has asked her to serve as the group's music/poetry curator.
Musically inclined FDNY, PAPD and WTC volunteers "Raising Their Voices"
author: New York Daily NewsThe New York Daily News, June 19th 2002. Raising Their Voices - Musically inclined police, firefighters and volunteers who worked on the World Trade Center recovery effort are featured on a CD that's just been released by West Street Records. Most of the 16 tracks on the "We'll Carry On" disk were written and recorded by uniformed personnel, including FDNY members Hughie Lynch, Greg Parr, Kathleen Pemble, Tom Ferranola and Chris Pickford, and Port Authority police officer Norma Hardy. The rest came from Ground Zero volunteers and local singer-songwriters. Val Ghent put the record together and included "The Men", a song she wrote from Hardy's poem of the same name. The record is available at J+R Music World and www.cdbaby.com, which both waived their usual stocking fees, and at www.WestStreetRecords.com Proceeds benefit WTC Ground Zero Relief, PAPD WTC Disaster Survivors Fund, and the 9.11 Widows & Victims' Families Association.

great cd
author: DianeI thought this was a great CD, shared with people by the musicians of NYC during a horrible time in our life. It was really touching to hear songs from the heart and to know that all proceeds were going to help victims families.
