notes
"One of the most enjoyable recordings I've heard in years." ..... Maurice Anderson.
"Damned good album!" ..... Tom Morrell.
"New York's Hottest Western Swing & Honky Tonk Orchestra!"
"Whooping, hollering, and holding back tears!".....NY Times review of Western Caravan live performance.
The Western Caravan featuring Thirsty Dave was formed in 1995 by guitarist Whit Smith (now with Hot Club Of Cowtown). This authentic Western Swing Orchestra has been serving up classic Country, Western Swing and Honky-Tonk standards as well as their own engaging originals to New York's connoisseurs and homesick Texans ever since.

As a follow-up to a very successful live album, New York City's premier Western Swing band, The Western Caravan has just released their first studio CD. The group's highly talented steel guitar and acoustic guitar player, John Widgren produced this album that was recorded recently in Norwalk, CT.
Other band members joining John for this superb album are Steve Alcott on both acoustic and electric bass, Mike Coon on guitar, Ken Fradley on trumpet, Thirsty Dave Hansen on vocals, Bob Mastro on fiddle and Dave Sonneborn on drums. The band's piano player, Joe Kerr is also featured on vocal on two of his own compositions, Bessie and I Kind Of Like It Here In France. Special guest Mark Rubenstein joins in on accordion.
The album opens with some wonderful Dave Hansen vocal on one of his own compositions, the title tune, Yellow Texas Moon. This is just one of the many tunes on which John's steel and Bob's fiddle just blow you away. Dave also wrote the swinging Oklahoma Blues, the Texas Dance Hall styled Making A Fool Of Myself and Voyage To The Bottom Of The Bottle. Dave also joined Joe to co-write the country oriented One Last Lie. John, Mike and the entire band bring back memories of the glory years of Ernest Tubb's Texas Troubadours with a great version of Buddy Charleton and Leon Rhodes' Honey Fingers. Possibly the highlight of the album is an incredible version of the old popular music chestnut Back Home Again In Indiana. Another interesting song that is reprised is the late Leon Payne's Psycho.
This album should be added to the collection of all fans of contemporary Western Swing or of any of theses fine musicians. This band is on the verge of really taking off and this John Widgren production could be the vehicle to get it going. The songs, arrangements, vocals and instrumentation are all first class.

Traveling to southern Vermont i see the dairy farms along the way.Yellow Texas Moon was the song in my mind. Thank you Western Caravan, and thank you Mike Gross from Swingin West.
You will never get tired of listening to this marvelous CD!
author: WhitneyThis is one of the cleverest, most charming and humorous CD's I own. I never tire of listening to the songs on YTM, each one a perfect little narrative supported by gorgeous West Coast swing music, whose lyrics you will know by heart remarkably quickly. It also never fails to please as a gift, either to folks familiar with this type of music or to the West-Coast-Swing-naive.
Priceless. I love it & have a copy in the car and the house.
author: Ginger CampbellThe first time I heard this CD, I knew it was a keeper. Every song is good but the best (for me) are One Last Lie, Bessie, Voyage to the Bottom of the Bottle and I Really Like It Here In France. I have copies in my car and my house so they are available for my listening pleasure all the time. I never get tired of listening to this CD. It's a must for anyone's collection. Get more than one!!
Fabulous!
author: ErinYahoo! From a Texan who knows Western Swing! This CD is definitely worth the price. It's hard to pick a favorite song, I'm singing them all as I do my farm chores. Bouncy and upbeat, it's Fabulous! Y'all get this one!
Fabulous and fun, I would highly recommend this CD.
author: Marney KidwellThe CD is fabulous and fun. The only thing better, would be to enjoy them live and in person, with a longneck or two and a great dancin guy, or two. I like the classic western swing sound of "Yellow Texas Moon" and "One Last Lie" and the funny lyrics of "Psycho". "Bessie" and "I kind of like it here in France" are both so entertaining, too. I find myself humming the melodies to myself. I plan on giving this CD to a few of my good friends, it is too good not to share.
In the Bob Wills' tradition
author: Jack GubancThis album is a fine collection of western swing music coming straight out of the east coast. Instrumentation and vocals are great! If your a western swing fan who enjoys the music of Bob Wills and Asleep At The Wheel, then you will certainly enjoy this disc and should buy it.
