"In a time of renewed interest in traditional music, there are only a handful of singers who can perform the enormously sophisticated and varied styles of Jewish music from around the world. Laura Wetzler is keeping the flame alive- an amazingly gifted singer-songwriter and ethnic folklorist." -David Amram, composer

A Must Have for World Music Listeners
author: AndreA friend turned me on to this new CD by Laura. The music, how can I explain, reminds me of a GREAT yoga class. The music starts off meditative, then picks up and ends with you in a revitalized state. There are all kinds of sounds (guitar, drums, violin, et al.) interlaced throughout. There are quite a few performers on the CD: Alicia and Lorin of the Klezmatics, a few members of the Abudaya Jews of Uganda (incredible harmonies), as well as others. The songs are quite old in origin. There is a beautiful explanation of the history behind each of the songs in the jacket. (A history lesson too!) All in all this is a QUALITY production. You can tell that Laura works hard and loves what she does. Needless to say...I really have enjoyed listening to Kabbalah Music: Songs of the Jewish Mystics.

author: Music Fan from NYCYou don't have to be Jewish to enjoy and appreciate this CD! Even if you don't understand Hebrew, Ladino (Judeo-Spanish,) Yiddish, (or English!) this CD is worthy of some serious listening, if only to be transported by the vocals and the worldbeat music. Laura Wetzler has done it again--delivered a musically intense, diverse, and deeply moving program with her gorgeous voice, vast range, and remarkable talent and versatility. She captures the essence of a meditation journey, starting softly, building to a crescendo, and then easing the listener back down to earth. The joy and celebration of singing and chanting 15 Kabbalistic poems and tunes from all over the world (Africa; Middle East; Europe; the U.S.), including a few of her own, is clearly conveyed. The beautifully designed, informative booklet contains explanatory and historical notes for each of the songs. I give them as gifts. Great CD! Try this!
