Music like the best party you will NEVER attend ... AND IT CAN ALL BE YOURS!!!!
This is the first album from Gavin Stewart's Whale Blue Eye. Underproduced, semi-pretentious, just what the world needs now ... (and you thought it was love)
IMAGINE! YOU CAN ALMOST SEE IT NOW:
... While those people who never really cared for you anyway are hanging out by the pool, listening to the mindless droning of a prepackaged, lip-synching mannequin, you and a few friends discover a secret room (windowless and painted black) where Hendrix jams with Kerouac, and Robert Smith argues that his lipstick was right on target after all. The words tell an ecstatic tale of alienation and longing, the music mournfully flows, and somehow you feel connected to something larger than yourself --but still quite secret in the best sense of the word.
SOME RANDOM FACTS (AND ONE QUESTION)
ABOUT WHALE BLUE EYE:
The Stewart brothers, Gavin (guitar & vocals) and Brian (bass guitar), have played in bands together since their early teens. Rumors to the contrary, no punches were ever thrown on stage.
The name Whale Blue Eye is derived from a Dylan Thomas poem.
And, as if that were not enough, Whale Blue Eye's "Pretty Picture" references both Rodin and Van Gogh (see?: nothing but pretentious drivel!)
"Psychic Faire" was written in less than an hour and recorded on the same day.
Can you think of any other band (other than Motorhead) that uses the word "obsequious" in a song? If you can, please e-mail us.
Gavin has written "hundreds" of songs. Many are as yet unreleased.
Brian used to play in a Grateful Dead cover band and has jammed with both Buddy Cage and Lenny Kravitz.
Gavin jammed with Lenny Kravitz too, but not at the same time as Brian.
Tony Angerson (who has since vanished into thin air) played drums on this CD. He also played on the Teenbeaters album "My World, My Sky," and on Jimmy Gnecco's first independent release, "Sour."
One of Gavin's earliest memories: his mom listening to a cassette of the Beatles' "Magical Mystery Tour."
Whale Blue Eye has a good friend named Mod who is an excellent sound engineer and guitarist, but NO ONE knows what planet he is from. Mod, who can now be seen with NYC hipsters Elefant, engineered the "Dizzy With Joy" sessions and provides additional guitars and odd noises.
One night a small rat (or maybe it was a large mouse) visited Gavin and Mod, crawling down the wall of the studio as they tried to record one of these lovely ditties.
Whale Blue Eye want you too to be "Dizzy With Joy."

Blackened with birds took a last look
At his thrashing hair and whale-blue eye."

better than ... caffeine ... or chocolate ... or ... whatever
author: cosmic nutThe mist of the fog on the tip of your tongue as you're standing in the station--a steadfast attitude of "don't pin me down," garagey angst and delicious self-pity with a dose of irony that's better than fifteen minutes of fame.
sweet music
author: manGreat all around. Mr. Stewart, if you read this, quit teaching and go back to what you do best- making sweet music
Makes Me Happy
author: jerseygirl ZWhere did they go? So very, very good. "In the Moment" and "Sort of Blue" are my favorites. "Famous For A Day" makes me laugh (I love the electronic touches). The whole album flows by in the blink of an eye... and then I listen all over again.
HOLY...
author: PersonWoah... Mr. Stewart you rock. Deffinately buying this CD.
you're my teacher. kthanks
Excellent Piece of Work !
author: Jay Pollard, VP, A&R Shut Eye RecordsExcellent piece of work! The album is wonderfully creative and very well produced. "Pretty Picture" is just the type of quality that college radio loves ... Your sound is reminiscent of many artists in my palate of musical tastes such as the Smiths, Local H, or even REM.
A great album!
author: elevation stationWell-produced 11 track album from the USA band Whale Blue Eye (great name!).Smooth vocals complement the rock pop/acoustic playing.Track three, "Freedom Chain," [is] worth a listen alone. Catchy songs, "Beatles" moments, and a great album to listen to. Cheers.
Ready for the radio!
author: SplendidTake two brothers and the original drummer from MTV buzz band Ours, allow them to delve into their love for rock giants such as U2 and the Smiths, and you've got the basic ingredients for Whale Blue Eye ... Whale Blue Eye would probably stand out as one of the better bands on the radio if they ever made it that far.
Something to be experienced here!
author: Altar NativeI keep wondering what happened to the idea of keeping a note without either going for the money shot immediately, or erring on the side of touchy-feely nonsense ... it makes me terribly homesick for the high school pleasures of Nirvana, of Soundgarden, of yes, the Pixies. Whale Blue Eye's latest, Dizzy With Joy, seems to be the guy sharing drinks with me at the bar, all wistful and shit ... something to be experienced here.
Cool CD artwork, solid writing, and good guitar throughout
author: TAXICD artwork is cool; great photos. Overall, well-structured and produced. Vocally it works; more in the Morrissey melodic vibe.Good guitar work throughout.
Whale Blue Eye Won't leave you feeling blue!
author: JeftyrulesI decided to experiment with CD baby becuse I was tired with the cliche pop ballads being sputtered out by the radio stations nowadays. I am happy to say that after listening to 'Dizzy With Joy' my hopes were met. Whale Blue Eye is a traditional three piece band, but they end up composing some really cool sounding stuff. The lyrics are ofen poetic and are a nice change from the love ballads that everyone and their mother seem to be able to write. (Check out 'Pretty Picture' and 'Psychic Faire' for some different-than-normal lyrics that make great songs. I also really liked some of the guitar riffs in 'Psychic Faire'.) My favorite song on the album is 'Standing In The Station,' it has one of those tunes and beats that can't help but get stuck in your head. I actully caught myself singing it this morning while shaving. Obviusly, the title track, 'Dizzy with Joy' is a great song, but it is surely not the only one on the album. I was very happy with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone looking specifically for a rock/alternative album, or just a solid album in general.
