notes
A fan and self-taught player of boogie woogie since childhood, Tim aims to play both cool-blue and red-hot.
Boogie woogie is a particular form of piano blues characterized by a variety of repeating left hand bass lines. Typically the bass line repeats either once or twice every bar and usually follows a traditional 12-bar blues chord progression. The steady left hand is a friend to both the player and the listener - it is percussion and the key-setter. It won't upset you, trick you or let you down. The left hand lets you dance or tap your foot without ever fearing that you'll lose the beat. The left hand is honesty. The left hand is safety. In contrast, the right hand is danger! Treading the high-wire between syncopation and cacophony, the right hand is free to skip and bounce over the rythmn weaving unlikely improvised (possibly illegal) melodies. Don't trust the right hand!
