Bill was born in Palmerston North New Zealand and christened William Talbot Bodell and from an early age was known as "William Tell".
He learned Harmonica at age 7 yrs and Piano at age 13 yrs and purchased his first Saxophone, a Plastic Grafton Acrylic when he was 15.
At 17 he joined the Comanders 18 piece dance band in Palmerston North as 5th Saxophonist and remained with them for close on two years.
After his 18 yr old CMT training he formed his first band, the "Mayfair Trio" and played in and around the Manawatu for Weddings, 21st Birthday parties and Dances.
This group went on to become The "City Swingers" 6 piece Show Band playing for most of the major functions in the area. In the 1960s, this Band provided backing for top N.Z. Artists such as Yolande Gibson, Ray Woolf, Lew and Simon, Brent Brodie, Patsy Rigor, Robert Genarie, Ray Columbus,Angelia Ayres and Gray Bartlett as well as other local and overseas Artists.
In the early 1970s Bill also had the pleasure of playing at an after Concert function with Mr."Acker Bilk".It was after this encounter that made him concentrate more on the Clarinet and today he is widely known as the nearest thing to Mr.Acker Bilk.
Over the years Bill has played with numerous groups and musicians in the Manawatu, Horowhenua, Wellington, Napier, Auckland and various parts of Western Australia .
In 1996 he moved to Perth in Western Australia and was employed as Principal Tutor for Brass and Woodwind at the Joondalup City School of Music.
He held this position for 2 yrs before returning to New Zealand where he now lives at Foxton and operates his own Recording Studio (ARROW MUSIC Co).
As well Recording his own Albums, he also produces Albums for other Artists in the area as well as playing live at various functions.
To Date, he has released three Instrumental Albums featuring the Clarinet and Saxophones:- "California Blue" 1998, "Sax on the Beach" 2002 and his latest Mini 8 track Album, "Sax gone Country" (May 2003).
