notes
Birthplace: Camden, Alabama
Current Hometown: Marion, Ohio
Influences: A fusion of blues, soul, and rock influences- 60's british blues (Yardbirds and Cream) to American psychedelic rock (Jimi Hendrix).
Unique Characteristics:
Willie is a big time concert performer who is known for his legendary performances throughout the midwestern U.S.A. He is charismatic showman who will simply rock you! Graffiti, a regional newspaper in West Virginia described Willie as a "....raging guitarist with a ton of attitude and stage presence." His juiced up versions of classic blues tunes performed in his live show are also something that should not be missed.
As an artist, he is a prolific songwriter who writes at least four songs to every one included on his CD releases (averages one CD release per year). Writes moving and soulful songs with infectious hooks.
As a musician, he's a talented guitarist who plays with great feel and intensity. He was taught to play guitar by his father and bluesman the Reverend Willie J. Creagh, who played with such legends as Muddy Waters, Little Walter, and Sonny Boy Williamson 2 (Willie Jr's Godfather). I guess good genes is the secret...
Highlights:
Vocals on Cooper Tire's 2007 Television Commercial
2005 Honored Artist of the Year Columbus Community Festival
Two Columbus Music Awards in 1994 for Best R & B Songwriter and Outstanding Rock Act
Opened for or played with such acts like BB King, Buddy Guy, John Lee Hooker, Tinsley Ellis, Buckwheat Zydeco, Joan Armatrading, Maria McKee and Bryan Adams.
Performs annually for the CD 101 Andyman-A-Thon benefiting Children's Charities in Columbus, Ohio.
Wrote the song "True Blue Jacket Fan" for the NHL Hockey Team Columbus Blues Jackets, which became a fan favorite and frequently played song during intermission at games.

Alternative Blues
author: JYCFabulous blend of juiced up blues with rock influences from the 60s psychedelic and british invasion eras make it fresh and interesting to my ears. A steady mix of emotionally charged tunes like Protest Song#99 and Dead Soldiers mixed with poppy hooked laced numbers like Funky New Girl and The Birthday make the album flow nicely from song to song. Phoenix's personality is all over this project with his colorful and clever songwriting and edgy guitar playing. Phoenix no doubt is the real deal and he has taken the best of his roots and crafted an alternative blues sound that is fresh and original. Thank you Willie for this musical treat.
Been waiting you for years!
author: Paul BondarovskiDon't call Willie Phoenix "new Jimi". He's come after. But ... right after. There is no one in between.
