Craig Stevens - Los Angeles, CA

"Great vocals. Great songs. Great Record."
Bob Kirsch - Welk Music Group

Jenny Yates has established herself as a successful songwriter - writing songs recorded by a variety of artists and culminating in her writing collaboration with Garth Brooks, which produced many songs - eight he's recorded - including his hits "Standing Outside the Fire", "The Red Strokes", "Thicker Than Blood" and the Golden Globe nominated "When You Come Back To Me Again" (from the film FREQUENCY).

Through the years - she has written songs with some of the world's finest singer/songwriters including: Garth Brooks, Keb'Mo', J.D. Souther, Eric Kaz, Janis Ian, Darden Smith, Andrew Gold, Carl Jackson, Peter McCann, Mike Reid and Tony Joe White.

Making a "to do" list of her life - she found she still wanted to make her own statement as a recording artist. Her first cd - "out of the blue" - consists of 14 songs she's written over the course of the last 15 years with co-writers Andrew Gold, Gary Nicholson, Tom Kimmel, Pierce Pettis, Kieran Kane, Charlie Black, Walt Aldridge, Buddy Mondlock, Garth Brooks, Johnny Lee Schell & Mark Isham.

Setting out to create her own folk-country sound "out of the blue" - was self-produced - recorded in Nashville and Los Angeles - with some of the country's finest musicians, singers and engineers.

Harmony vocals are provided by friends, Andrew Gold on "The Streets of Your Town", Garth Brooks on "A Good Rain", Trisha Yearwood on "Beautiful World" and,
Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood on "This Boat".

Born and raised in Phoenix, Jenny now divides her time between Los Angeles, CA, Nashville, TN, and Blue, Arizona (located in the White Mountains of eastern Arizona), writing songs and singing for a living.

"I love this cd. It gives me a 'peaceful easy feeling' ".
Tuttie Jackson - Nashville, TN

"She is not only a great writer, but there's something about her voice. Everytime she sings I'm just taken in by it. Her voice is commanding yet inviting - I call it amazing'."

  • They Called Her Americana
    author: JoAnn

Still my favorite....fell in love with that song hearing you sing it live in the Pasadena Coffee house a few years ago. Thanks for that. JoAnn

  • pure and timeless Americana
    author: Trots Allt

"Jenny Yates has been writing songs for Garth Brooks, Kathy Mattea and Ronnie Milsap. But when she, herself, sings her songs - written in co-operation with Kieran Kane, Andrew Gold and Gary Nicholson - it's not about middle-of-the-road-mainstream-boring-country, it's about pure and timeless (70's smelling) Americana. Jenny's voice is the centre-piece, and it's a voice that convinces you from the first bar - A kind of clear and concious tone, not unlike Linda Ronstadt. Proud and beautiful!"

  • This is a great project , you want to hear it again and again..

  • Great Collection of songs by an extraordinary vocalist!!
    author: jh

OUT OF THE BLUE embodies the exellence possible with modern country music. The collection of well-crafted, poignant songs paints a set of stories. Images flood the listener's mind as the lyrics weave their tales of everyday life. Yates directs her powerful voice artfully. With the purity and fluidity of a mountain stream, she brings life to the set of collaborations. She wields a subtlety beyond the abilities of many commercial country artists. The song, the story takes precedence to the"sound" and ego of the artist. With every listen, OUT OF THE BLUE brings the listener an enjoyable experience. It is the perfect disc for road trips.

  • Wonderful CD

Love the songs, Rain really captures the farmers misfortune, and I love Tender is My Heart.

  • Great CD. Really great CD.
    author: Tracy Newman

I like to buy CD's of artists that I see around town live, and like, but most of the time I'm disappointed with the way they've been recorded. It doesn't resemble what they really sound like. Jenny's CD is the REAL DEAL. You really get the artist and her true voice and ability. And her writing is great. I love it!!!

  • Love the cd

There are about five songs I think one should become a hit. Just can't decide which one. They are all out of the blue. I keep playing the cd over and over at work. Great....

  • Clean and crisp

I enjoyed this CD very much. Clean and crisp sound with outstanding musicians. Jenny has a voice I just love. It is refreshing to hear country without the schmaltz that the big labels put out.

  • Jenny Yates is a songwriter's songwriter.
author: Nancy Moran -- American Songwriter Magazine -

Jenny Yates is a songwriter’s songwriter. Unbelievably skillful in her songwriting craft, she captures the attention of even the most critical listener with her comfortable melodies, relatable lyrics and pristine, clear vocals. Indeed, she makes songwriting look easy and you’ll feel like you’ve been singing her songs all of your life. While this award-winning hit songwriter has had cuts by Garth Brooks, Eddie Rabbitt, Dan Seals, Keb’Mo’, Janis Ian and Sammy Kershaw (to name but a few), this CD is the first project of her very own. She reminds me of Karla Bonoff – a blend of pop, folk, Americana, and singer-songwriter genres. The understated production is perfect, allowing each song to gently and naturally permeate your soul. This is a fabulous debut release and one that every songwriter should own.

    author: Matthew Locricchio

This first album by Jenny Yates is a so engaging that one wants to listen to it over and over. Backed by outstanding studio talent and the clarity of her voice, this album is not to be missed. Her haunting, A GOOD RAIN, is an American anthem of the 21st century. Sing on,Jenny!

  • Bell clear voice & lyrics, w/ soulful country, folk & bluesey variety.
    author: Kim Ptak

Previous songwriter for some Garth Brooks platinum, and currently collaborating with Keb Mo on some of his tunes, this is Jenny's first solo album. With a voice like a fine tuned violin, or an angel that's been around the block, Jenny's bell clear lyrics and music take you on a spirited horse ride. The first tune lets you know it wants to run, and each tune carefully handles the reins, finally bursting into a full gallop over a high plateau, with some sexy, bluesy tunes, and then cooling down again in a lush valley with the last ones. With a wide variety of influences carefully crafted together, she shows what she can do. This album deserves much recognition and enjoyment! She should keep lettin' er run!

  • Purest voice I've heard in YEARS1
    author: Joan Hammer

I sat in absolute silence for 20 mins. after listening to this CD. She has the purest voice in country music and the selections leave you wanting the next CD. I was moved to tears by the sheer beauty of this voice. Where's the next concert and CD?

  • Invigorating Mix of Music
    author: Hoyt & Barbie Pinaire

This invigorating mix of music persuades the listener to sing along, tap your foot and get into each song. It's refreshing to hear such different styles of songs on one CD.

  • Great songwriting!
    author: David Palmer

This is a wonderful CD! A strong collection of songs by this talented writer and singer.
