Web Developer HostBaby was established in 2000 by the same folks who brought you CD Baby indie music distribution. HostBaby lives in the beautiful Pacific Northwest (Portland, OR), where art and music rises from basements, galleries, studios and venues across the land. We created HostBaby to give independent musicians, authors and artists the tools they need to grow their careers online. We are looking for an experienced developer to join the talented and diverse HostBaby team in our downtown Portland development office.
  • Design, maintain, and develop current and new web products and processes for those products
  • Make architecture decisions for applications JavaScript resources, consulting with the team and manager
  • Exhibit a high level of respect for team members and be focused on team development
  • Act as the teams day-to-day JavaScript go-to
  • Maintain a high quality of code with the team by following (and giving input on) code style and structure guidelines
  • Help fix bugs and resolve issues for existing web hosting customers in a team-wide ticketing system rotation
  • Conduct / perform new code releases and updates in a team-wide rollout rotation
  • Support team product development activities such as daily scrum standups and project planning meetings, leading them where needed or appropriate.
  • Assist in clearly communicating the teams needs and desires to management
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned
  • Good communication skills written and verbal
  • Exposure to version control systems
  • Minimum 3 years professional experience with JavaScript
  • Professional experience with jQuery, but ample knowledge of native JavaScript as well
  • Strong knowledge of PHP syntax
  • Experience working with MVC or MVVM frameworks
  • Professional experience with CSS3
  • Knowledge of HTML5 and XHTML 1.x
  • Professional experience using APIs that speak JSON
  • Cross-browser development knowledge of browsers quirks and how to get around them
  • Ability and willingness to master and identify new technologies as the industry changes
  • Professional experience with at least one JS framework (AngularJS or Knockout.js preferred)
  • Professional experience with at least one CSS preprocessor (SCSS preferred)
  • Professional experience with at least one CSS framework (e.g. Foundation or Bootstrap)
  • Experience with HTML5 media tags, especially wrapper packages like jPlayer
  • Some exposure to SQL / relational databases
  • Experience working with virtual machines for local development
  • Icing on the Cake:
  • Experience with CodeIgniter
  • Experience with Vagrant
  • Experience with git
  • Experience using a ticketing system
  • Sysadmin experience
  • Experience with non-relational datastores like Redis, Mongo, etc.
  • Work at desk and internal/external locations
  • Some travel may be required
  • Hours are flexible, but generally 9-5 Monday-Friday

Customer Service Representative Do you have a passion for supporting independent musicians? Do you have a proven track record in customer service and helping others? Our awesome Customer Service team provides support directly to the customers and artists of CD Baby.
  • Answer and direct incoming calls and emails to the appropriate people within the organization
  • Answer artists and customer questions regarding their accounts, album sign-ups and orders
  • Accurately, complete data entry and enter new prospects/clients into the computer system
  • Enter transactions into computer which will generate mailings to prospects/clients
  • Cover reception/ Greet clients and assist with employee/client meetings
  • Follow proper security guidelines to ensure safety procedures are followed according to company policies
  • Reliability must be on time, and have good attendance
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned
  • Must have good communication, language and verbal skills
  • Must be professional and friendly on the phones
  • Must have good computer skills and accurate typing skills of 30-40 wpm minimum
  • Copyright and publishing knowledge
  • Positive attitude
  • Level of knowledge about Artist & Customer related issues & questions
  • Ongoing learning about CD Baby, Music Industry, and Artist and Customer issues
