UI Developer

As part of the Web Development team at CD Baby, this position focuses on front-end UI/UX design and development, including layout, styling, client-side scripting and integration with server side components.

Essential Functions:

  • Improving and maintaining online retail web applications supporting multiple browsers and devices.
  • Developing creative and responsive web UI controls to address a wide variety of use cases.
  • Working closely within a team of graphic designers, back-end developers, QA testers, and product owners to meet deadlines and maintain overall project integrity.
  • Consistently write clean maintainable code.
  • Work on support tickets related to web development issues.

Education:

  • 4-year degree or relevant certifications and professional experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong experience programming with JavaScript, JQuery, HTML, CSS, LESS, AJAX ,JSON and client-side web frameworks (Bootstrap a plus).
  • Experience with the MVC pattern and object oriented programming.
  • Problem solving and critical thinking in a fast paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Initiative to learn and desire to develop and deepen skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Experience programming in the Visual Studio Development environment using ASP.NET and C# a plus.

Product Owner

CD Baby has a great opportunity for a Product Owner to join our Development team. The Product Owner represents CD Baby and BookBaby stakeholder interests and works closely with development as part of an agile development process. In this role, you will lead the tactical implementation of product development as well as working with the key business stakeholders and Product Manager to define overall product requirements, vision and long-term strategic roadmap.

Essential Functions:

  • Work closely with business stakeholders to define and prioritize the product backlog and product roadmap for the CD Baby and BookBaby brands.
  • Maintain product vision and release plan, and communicate that with the scrum team.
  • Frequently re-prioritize backlogs based on stakeholder feedback, market changes, business priority and available resources.
  • Actively manage stakeholders requirements and expectations through each project.
  • Hold team accountable to their commitments and accept or reject the scrum team’s work at the close of each sprint.
  • Attend all required Scrum meetings including: daily stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog grooming, sprint review.
  • Provide the team with clear information regarding who the end user is and: how, when, and why they use the product or service.
  • Create detailed, thoughtful and actionable requirements including functional specifications, UI designs, workflow diagrams etc.
  • Establish success criteria for key product features using meaningful metrics.
  • Collaborate closely with developers during sprints. Clarify requirements and make timely decisions on execution details.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with an agile product development team in a Product Owner role.
  • Proven ability to create detailed, thoughtful and actionable requirements including functional specifications, UI designs, workflow diagrams etc.
  • Experience using a wiki, and working with project management tools (Trello, Jira, VersionOne, Rally or similar).
  • Experience in the music or book publishing industry is a plus.

Development Manager, HostBaby

HostBaby was established in 2000 by the same folks who brought you CD Baby indie music distribution. HostBaby lives in the beautiful Pacific Northwest (Portland, OR), where art and music rises from basements, galleries, studios and venues across the land. We created HostBaby to give independent musicians, authors and artists the tools they need to grow their careers online.

We are looking for an experienced, hands-on development leader to join the talented and diverse HostBaby team in our downtown Portland development office.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead a team of 6+ developers.
  • Organize complex workloads and match tasks to appropriate resources.
  • Work with stakeholders to understand business goals, provide high-level estimates, and suggest technical options to maximize value.
  • Participate in strategic product planning and maintain roadmap for platform/infrastructure development initiatives.
  • Motivate, challenge and inspire others to do their best work.
  • Maintain a culture of teamwork, creativity and positivity.

Requirements:

  • 2+ years successfully leading development teams using agile methodologies.
  • Experience with FOSS development and *nix LAMP stack hosting.
  • Familiarity with PHP, relational databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL).
  • Experience working on a *nix shell.
  • Solid understanding of HTTP/S, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and jQuery, and some knowledge of web hosting’s nuts and bolts: DNS, WHOIS, etc.

Preferred:

  • Experience in music industry and/or hosting.
  • Experience with Vagrant, Redis, EC2, S3, Docker.
  • Experience with Code Igniter and/or Zend Framework.
  • Vim experience.

Bilingual (English/Spanish) Customer Service Representative

CD Baby is seeking bilingual candidates that share a passion for delivering outstanding customer service. Fluency in English/Spanish required.

Responsibilities / Tasks:

  • Answer and direct incoming calls and emails to the appropriate people within the organization.
  • Answer artists and customer questions regarding their accounts, album sign-ups and orders.
  • Accurately, complete data entry and enter new prospects/clients into the computer system.
  • Enter transactions into computer which will generate mailings to prospects/clients.
  • Cover reception/ Greet clients and assist with employee/client meetings.
  • Follow proper security guidelines to ensure safety procedures are followed according to company policies.
  • Reliability – must be on time, and have good attendance.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Required Skills:

  • Minimum of 1 year previous customer service experience.
  • Must have good communication, language and verbal skills.
  • Must be professional and friendly on the phones.
  • Must have good computer skills and accurate typing skills.
  • Copyright and publishing knowledge helpful.
