ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
18 WHEELER is a Gear-Jammin' rockabilly Trio from Denver CO. The Band infuses 50's era roots rock with influences from The Cramps, The Beat Farmers, KISS, and others. Their High energy live set is a shot of danger shakin' not stirred-with 100% Balls out fun! The band features Bobby "Rockinbones" Smith on Guitar/Vocals (formerly from Jumpin Jimes), The Band was founded Nov of 2000 by Bobby Smith, being tired of playing swing Bobby wanted to get back to his roots (rockabilly) so he called on Philippe and Gator which are 2 of the best in the LA scene and recorded these songs at Philippe's studio in Los Angeles California. All songs written by Bobby Smith except, C'mon Everybody, Somethin' Else, and Leave my kitten alone. Chris Lawrence (of Mike Ness) played the pedal steel parts on "The Pickin' Shack"

In September 2001 Bobby relocated to Longmont Colorado.

Now on the Slap Bass is Jimmy "Slappin' Daddy" Kolodziej formerly of The Hillbilly Hellcats, and Johnny and The Blades, and on Drums is GT Scragg. Now more than ever 18 Wheeler brings the Rock and Roll back into Rockabilly music!

18 Wheeler is badass!!
Great first CD. It has a good old sound to it. Not over done, just like real rockabilly should. Keep it up!

Truly amazing!
This album was described to me as being rather Stray Cat-ish. While I think that is true, you can also hear elements of Western swing in there. And the instrumental, "The Pickin' Shack", evokes shades of the Speedy West/Jimmy Bryant duets in the '50's. That cut features Chris Lawrence on pedal steel. Bobby Smith provides absolutely smokin' and cool guitar parts when needed and he can sure shimmer with the Bigsby. If you think you even begin to somewhat like rockabilly, you HAVE to get this one!

Rockabilly as it should be
One of the best rockabilly albums I've heard. True, there are only 9 tracks, but each and every one of them is a real gem. These guys would make any of the great rockers of the 50s proud. They are proof that rockabilly is very much alive in the 21st century!

Very few Rockabilly bands stand out like 18Wheeler.
These guys are good. There are a million Rockabilly bands out there, but very few stand out - 18Wheeler does. Great vocals, solid musicianship, and well produced. The only thing keeping me from giving this album 5 stars is that there are some covers on here - while they are well done, I don't like to see another cover of an Eddie Cochran song that has been done one thousand times before. Stick to the original stuff guys and you'll be collecting 5 stars on a consistant basis.

very good 1st cd
some very catchy songs on this disc very good especially for bands first full length cd, not as good as follow up cd called "Charmed Life" so only 4 stars.
