8KALACAS was born in 2003 in Orange County, California as a SKA group. As time passed and the band began to mature, they began adopting rhythms from various hardcore, punk, and metal influences forming a unique style of music that can only be called SKA-Core.
After a few years of playing and recording some demos, the band came into contact with Clemente Ruiz (owner and operator of Evoekore Media production from Los Angeles, CA) and immediately began working together to establish their presence in the underground Ska scene of California.
Around 2007 8Kalacas released their first official EP titled “Pan de Muerto,” which received a lot of attention from the public and opened many doors for them including their first Mexico tour in 2010, playing to their many fans in Puebla, Guadalajara, and Distrito Federal.
In 2011 the band released their full-length disc which includes 15 tracks that broadcast messages of love, rebellion, rage, and resistance. With the release of this album, the group had strengthened itself within the scene and was now one of the most influential forces in the Southern California Ska-scene; taking them to play in some of the more important and historical venues in California such as “The Yost Theater,” the “Whisky a Go-Go,” and even managed to sell out at the “House of Blues” in Hollywood, CA.
Since then they have made two more trips to Mexico. The first was in 2011 at the “Ska Wars” festival in Guadalajara Jalisco, and then again in 2013 to play festivals in Mexico City, Queretaro, Puebla, and Distrito Federal, where they were offered a showcase in the Tianguis Cultural del Chopo and in the famous Foro Alicia.
Over the years the band has been invited to participate in such compilations as “SKA Sin Fronteras (Mexico),” “Evoekore Media Vol. 1 (USA),” and “Etchte Ubersee Records Vol. 6 (Germany),” and has shared the scene with many renowned artists like: El Tri, Maldita Vecindad, Panteon Rococo, Sekta Core!, Rata Blanca, Antidoping, Salon Victoria, Maskatesta, Ska-P, Royal Club, 2 Minutos, Nana Pancha, The Dickies, The Toasters, Buck-O-Nine, Voodoo Glow Skulls, Cheap Sex, Asesino, Liran’Roll, Los De Abajo, Wisecracker, and many, many more bands from the California Ska scene.
8KALACAS is music made from the heart with the goal of spreading a message of equality and justice.
