Album Notes
There are very few working blues acts actually surviving on the strength of their original material. Philly's rhythm and blues legends, the BUICKS have been doing it for some thirty years - and their still running strong. Their latest release, Biscuits N' Chicken is a tour-de-force of skillful writing and musicianship. 12 original songs that stretch the blues envelope to the limit - but in the best way possible. Strong vocals, extremely well conceived arrangements and a rhythm section that can't be beat is what makes this band so &$(%@! good!!

Totally worth the wait
Ok, I'll admit, I already purchased one of their new cd's at a show but came to cdbaby to turn a friend on to their music. I've been a fan of the Buicks for a good dozen years now and have seen them live many times. It's hard for me to understand how this band has not received more national attention with such amazing song writing and a live show that is simply terrific. I remember the band saying they were working on a new cd last summer and it truly was worth the wait.

Biscuits N' Chicken is an astounding effort. I know everyone probably writes that about cd's here but I've been a music fan all of my life and this album is top notch. The songs range from straight up blues to more experimental approaches to the genre and they pull it off perfectly. You can listen to it from beginning to end or just pick a random track because there is not a weak song on this album. What amazes me is that 4 of the 6 members have writing credits and that is such a rare thing to have so many people writing such strong music. I can't even pick a favorite because I love every tune on here. I will say though, Little Blue Pill and One in a Million Woman are meant for the radio and I'm sure going to be writing my local station begging them to play them.

I could go on and on about how much I am enjoying this album. IN fact, I regularly buy cds' from Alligator Records. I consider myself a pretty big blues fan. The last dozen albums I've bought from Alligator pale in comparison to Biscuits n Chicken. For real. And even if you are not a huge blues fan, this album has so much to offer. It's not a 'blues' album, it's just a great album. Thanks Buicks!!!!!!

How did I miss these guys all these years!!
Seriously, I hear this band has been in the Philly area for more than 30 years. I feel stupid never having heard of them because they are FANTASTIC. A buddy of mine took me just north of the city bragging about how good this band was. I've seen a lot of blues acts come through town over the years but I have to tell you, I was blown away with how good they are live. So, yeah, I bought 3 cd's that night and all of them are gems. This album, Biscuits N' Chicken is friggin great. I've listened to ti a bunch of times already and it just gets better and better. BUY IT!

Ditto - how the hell did I not hear of these guys before? I live in Philly!!
I love the blues. If you aren't from Philly, you may not know we don't really have any organized blues scene. There are blues societies on the outskirts of town but not much happening in the city. I read on some message board about this band, the BUICKS. They were playing about 45 minutes outside the city and releasing this cd, Biscuits N’ Chicken. So a buddy of mine and I decided to give it a shot since nothing was going on in town. We made the trek to this club. The ticket price was a bit high so we were considering bagging it but we could hear the band (they had started) and I’m tellin’ ya, we were amazed. So we go in. The place was probably ¾ full but it’s summer time so that’s nothing new. Who cared. They are freaking incredible. The singer announced they had a new cd and that they would be playing tunes from it. All my buddy and I could keep saying was, “where the hell did these guys come from”? Best live blues act we’ve ever seen. No B.S. people, the best live blues we’ve ever seen. Yes, we bought the cd. Hell, we also bought all three they had for sale that night (all of them smoking cd’s). Since this page is to review this album let me say this: If you say to love the blues, rhythm and blues or soul, you WILL LOVE BISCUITS N’ CHICKEN. First of all, the whole thing is original music. Honestly, even most of the ‘national’ acts we see come through the City tend to bore the hell out of us with one cover after another; or it’s the typical guitar slinger thing. But these are original songs so well conceived, so well arranged and so perfectly played. And they play the stuff just as good live. In fact, their vocalist is unbelievable live, probably better than what is on record. Don’t know what that dude does for a living but if it ain’t singing, something is wrong in this world. I could review every song on this cd and go on and on about how well it’s done but all I’ll say is it’s great from beginning to end. GREAT! GREAT STUFF!!!!
