ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Bay Ayiti yon chans- A poignant appeal

An impressive array of Haitian singers gave the best of themselves during the preparation of this CD combo DVD + CD. 2004, the Bicenntenial year of the Independence of Haiti, a year which brought pride, frustration, sadness, determination, self-examination among many Haitians. It is no accident that Haitian artists had a special role to play in celebrating this event. With the release of “Bay Ayiti yon chans” – Give Haiti a chance - , promoter Fred Paul and his group Lole-Lolay made it a point to contribute in his own way. The title tune, which is also the title of the CD, is based on John Lennon’s “Give peace a chance. ” 1 CD + 1 DVD

Bay Ayiti yon chans is a CD with a message, a message of conciliation, peace, love, conscience, unselfishness and dedication to improving the lot of the Haitian population. It is poignant appeal by a great number of Haitian artists to all those who care, who want a change for Haiti and who dream of restoring her past beauty. An impressive array of Haitian singers gave the best of themselves during the preparation of this CD: Gina Dupervil, Dadou Pasquet, Armstrong Jeune, Ginou Oriol, Eddy François, Assade Francoeur and so many more. The lyrics of all the songs will move you to tears, revive nostalgic moments and motivate you to help.

Listen for example to the tune Imajine w and let your mind drift as you listen to the lyrics. Tune No. 3 features Gina Dupervil and is a wonderful adaptation of the song “ Do you know”. You will also hear a very nice tribute from Martiniquan artists Patsy Jérémy and Dédé St. Prix to Haiti’s Bicentennial.

Of the 9 songs on the CD, 6 of them are written by Fred Paul and he did a wonderful job. The CD is enjoyable not only for the lyrics and the music, but also for the rhythm. Indeed, it is played on a nice, infectious Twoubadou beat. The mixing is super and an excellent cast of musicians make this CD one of the most enjoyable and thoughtful for 2004. Once again, Fred Paul has produced a very worthwhile CD that can only win praise.

By the way,, the CD comes with a companion DVD which features live all the artists playing the song “Bay Ayiti yon chans” If you have not done so yet, run to your record supplier to buy your copy. You will like it.
