Album Notes
The idea of overnight success is one of those great know, like jumbo shrimp or military intelligence. Putting a lot of years in the performing arts doesn't automatically grant you success of any kind. Hopefully you survive. Obviously Cal Collins was playing the guitar a lot of years before his stint with Benny Goodman got him out of town, and his subsequent albums as a leader where you may have heard him for the first time. This album is a good example of
Cal's playing "before success" and consequently a flavor yet to be tasted.
In the music business, capturing that right moment can give meaning to the word difficult. There was no thought here of studios and levels and length of tracks, for this was never intended to be a preconceived ideas. Could be why
it feels so good!

Simply great bebop guitar
This is just a simply great bebop guitar trio. The playing is awesome, and the recording is so nice and simple - just like the great bebop records from the 60s - no obvious added reverb and bad digital sound. Well done dudes.
