ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Since 2005, Papo Ortega’s CUBANOSON has performed publicly and privately at many events for numerous nationalities and cultures. It is truly our pleasure to perform for spectators, fans and especially dancers. Our 2006 debut recording, Recordando A Cuba has been heard around the world thanks to the many DJs, Radio Hosts, TV, Radio and Internet stations who have embraced CUBANOSON’s music and have made this orchestra what it is today. CUBANOSON continues to perform publicly and hope to expand our appearances outside the United States to Canada, Europe and the many great countries that enjoy our music.

RUMBA NUEVA, CUBANOSON’s second production contains 7 original tracks, and is premised on our continued commitment to honor the great artists who have bestowed upon us the utmost musical education. Here is a preview of the songs recorded on the CD.

A Bailar Con Cubanoson - as the introductory song - provides listeners with a breakdown of the orchestra’s instrumentation, in a swinging montuno. La Fiesta is an invitation to come to a party and dance. The title track Rumba Nueva is an energetic son montuno with a flavor of flamenco rumba style, with emphasis on the orchestra’s percussion. Next on the CD is Cantamos A Puerto Rico. Wanting to honor my fellow Puerto Rican musicians, community and fans, we wrote a song for all our Salseros to honor Puerto Rico. Cubanizate, is a never released son montuno tailor made for CUBANOSON. Tributo A Rodriguez, honors the legendary trumpeter Roberto Rodriguez Sr. (For all those salsero lovers, Rodriguez Sr. was featured in numerous Fania records) and his son Roberto Rdoriguez Jr, CUBANOSON’s musical director. Included in this CD are three classic tunes. Voulez-Vous Danser, Quien Sera/Sway (In both Spanish and English) and Preguntame Como Estoy. There are two selections from Silvio Cebrian, known for writing great songs like Ansia. They are La Gallinita, and Loco, Loco, Loco. Both of these are great fun to play and will definitely fill up the dance floor.
If you’ve listened to our first CD, Recordando a Cuba, and if you have danced with CUBANOSON live, you know we have a great love for the French Language. On our first CD, in Monsieur Jose, we sang about a guy who couldn’t speak French to communicate with his French girlfriend. In this CD, I wanted to expand on this concept and incorporate more of the French Language. In this CD, in Voulez Vous Danser, we ask in French, Would you like to dance with me? We also recorded the French version of Historia De Un Amor, a classic Latin song, titled Histoire D’un Amouras a bonus track. Lastly, a French version of La Fiesta was recorded and titled On Y Va Tous A Danser as an additional original bonus track was also included.
Ed Castañeda of HavanaNewYork.com created incredible artwork including a collage of the orchestra members. The CD includes a 4 page description of the orchestra’s activities since inception in 2005

I thank you all for reading about CUBANOSON. We hope to earn your trust in our music and that you enjoy listening and dancing to all of the tracks of “Rumba Nueva.” I look forward to hearing from all of our supporters, fans, friends, family, dancers, djs, radio hosts, and media personnel, including all of those we have yet to meet. On behalf of Papo Ortega’s CUBANOSON, (New York’s Cuban Orchestra), we thank all of you.

Please take a moment to send us an e-mail at papo@cubanoson.com or you can always call us at 201-394-1881 (USA). We sincerely appreciate your comments and suggestions. Until next time! Hasta la proxima! A la prochaine!

Cubanoson follow up CD - Solid
Papo is so solid from start to finish, you can see why dancers love this band. So rhythmic you can’t stand still... The beauty of Cubanoson is the simplicity of the music. Rhythm, bass, brass, vocals. Nothing revolutionary or left-field, just pure New York City Cuban son played for dancers. DJs should find plenty of tracks for the dancefloor and salsa dancers of all styles should enjoy dancing to them. Nice one Papo !

Rumba Nueva - Papo Ortega's CUBANOSON
New York City-based Cuban music orchestra called Cubanosón is committed to honoring and nurturing the traditions of Cuban music, as well as all the other rhythms of the Caribbean. Cantamos a Puerto Rico and it's one of the highlights of this recording since half of his sideman are of Puerto Rican heritage featuring the tres guitar of Junior Rivera. Other standouts include the selections A Bailar Con Cubanosón, the title track Rumba Nueva, and a handful of French-language tracks – Voulez-Vous Danser, Histoire D'un Amour, and On y Va Tous a Danser. – Rudy Mangual

One of the best CD's I've heard and played!
OMG what can I say! "Rumba Nueva" & "Recordando A Cuba" 2 of the best CDs I've heard (& played) in the last 5 yrs. I'm not the only Salsa/Latin DJ that loves your sound you guys have many fans here in the UK. We love the way your albums reflect a mix of the old with the new, the Spanish with the French, the Son with the Cha, also a perfect production. I have danced Salsa now for 15 yrs and DJ'd for the last 4 and your sound gives a lot of new and long standing dancers much enjoyment. Mc Salsa - UK

Big Band and great dance tunes!
"Big Band and great dance tunes! Love your CDs, too, because I can actually hear the
words, the chorus is so beautiful, the TRUMPET is fantastic and also love that you
sing in French, English, and Spanish! You can't play a Cubanoson CD just once. Also
love the variety -- son montuno, cha cha, bolero (?). Keep up the great work!"
