Since 2005, Papo Ortega’s CUBANOSON has performed publicly and privately at many events for numerous nationalities and cultures. It is truly our pleasure to perform for spectators, fans and especially dancers. Our 2006 debut recording, Recordando A Cuba has been heard around the world thanks to the many DJs, Radio Hosts, TV, Radio and Internet stations who have embraced CUBANOSON’s music and have made this orchestra what it is today. CUBANOSON continues to perform publicly and hope to expand our appearances outside the United States to Canada, Europe and the many great countries that enjoy our music.
RUMBA NUEVA, CUBANOSON’s second production contains 7 original tracks, and is premised on our continued commitment to honor the great artists who have bestowed upon us the utmost musical education. Here is a preview of the songs recorded on the CD.
A Bailar Con Cubanoson - as the introductory song - provides listeners with a breakdown of the orchestra’s instrumentation, in a swinging montuno. La Fiesta is an invitation to come to a party and dance. The title track Rumba Nueva is an energetic son montuno with a flavor of flamenco rumba style, with emphasis on the orchestra’s percussion. Next on the CD is Cantamos A Puerto Rico. Wanting to honor my fellow Puerto Rican musicians, community and fans, we wrote a song for all our Salseros to honor Puerto Rico. Cubanizate, is a never released son montuno tailor made for CUBANOSON. Tributo A Rodriguez, honors the legendary trumpeter Roberto Rodriguez Sr. (For all those salsero lovers, Rodriguez Sr. was featured in numerous Fania records) and his son Roberto Rdoriguez Jr, CUBANOSON’s musical director. Included in this CD are three classic tunes. Voulez-Vous Danser, Quien Sera/Sway (In both Spanish and English) and Preguntame Como Estoy. There are two selections from Silvio Cebrian, known for writing great songs like Ansia. They are La Gallinita, and Loco, Loco, Loco. Both of these are great fun to play and will definitely fill up the dance floor.
If you’ve listened to our first CD, Recordando a Cuba, and if you have danced with CUBANOSON live, you know we have a great love for the French Language. On our first CD, in Monsieur Jose, we sang about a guy who couldn’t speak French to communicate with his French girlfriend. In this CD, I wanted to expand on this concept and incorporate more of the French Language. In this CD, in Voulez Vous Danser, we ask in French, Would you like to dance with me? We also recorded the French version of Historia De Un Amor, a classic Latin song, titled Histoire D’un Amouras a bonus track. Lastly, a French version of La Fiesta was recorded and titled On Y Va Tous A Danser as an additional original bonus track was also included.
Ed Castañeda of HavanaNewYork.com created incredible artwork including a collage of the orchestra members. The CD includes a 4 page description of the orchestra’s activities since inception in 2005
