DIXIELAND TROMBONE is the project of BLUE STREET JAZZ BAND trombonist Dave Ruffner. The project was a longtime dream of Dave, who wanted to compile some of the most famous trombone-related traditional jazz songs on one album. DIXIELAND TROMBONE has thirteen tracks that include old warhorses such as ORY’S CREOLE TROMBONE, LASSUS TROMBONE, TROMBONE RAG, ORIGINAL DIXIE JASS BAND ONE-STEP, and TIGER RAG. DIXIELAND TROMBONE also features two fine female vocalists – Blue Street Jazz Band’s own SHERRI COLBY singing TROMBONE CHOLLY, and KAREN MARGUTH, Blue Street’s substitute vocalist and Fresno jazz star, singing MUSKRAT RAMBLE. Dave arranged SEVENTY-SIX TROMBONES and DOWN HOME RAG for the album and included three of his own original compositions: KID, KING AND TOILET, ORY ALA TURK, and RUFFNER’S AUTO RAG. The CD also features a hymn played in traditional jazz style – WHEN WE ALL GET TO HEAVEN.
