"Inspired and inspiring - honesty, depth and passion are the hallmarks of Gareth Davies-Jones' songs."
From the bright and pleasingly radio friendly opener "The Fields" you just know this album isn't going to disappoint. "Chasing Light" is a feast of contemporary acoustic/folk, singer-songwriter fusion and a must for all fans of intelligent and stylish songwriting. Davies-Jones, having for the past past decade served his musical apprenticeship on the acoustic/folk circuit in the UK has put together a new collection of songs that lift, gently persuade, compel and sooth the listener in equal measure. Travel through the tracks and you'll find cleverly re-worked traditional ballads like "Reilly", "Rover of The Sea" and "Sweet Portaferry", thought-provoking political comment such as "Berlin To Bethlehem" and "Headlines", gripping historical narrative in "PQ17", deeply personal reflections through "Hidden" and "Character" and the essence of his adoptive Northumbrian landscape in melody with "Chasing Light" and "Ingram". To add to his own assured performances on the project there's an impressive line-up of guest musicians including the talented new-English-Folk duo Megson, one of Scotland's finest drummers in Alyn Cosker, the superb Kevin McGuire on Double-Bass and accomplished fellow singer-songwriter Yvonne Lyon. The variety in subject matter, tempo and musical colour that runs through "Chasing Light" ensures that the new album enhances an already growing reputation for Davies-Jones. Showcasing a smooth and distinctive voice this is an excellent product from a hard-working and observant songwriter that consistently steps up to the musical mark.
